Impressive architecture. Not sure exactly what it reminds me of, but it's
something.

Man you guys are reading my mind today.
I was thinking more about cyberpunk sewers last night, and (because I lived in Tokyo for a while) it immediately occurred to me the way they shift water around would be perfect, their sewers, waterways, canals, bridges ... it's all very big and very concrete.
And then I started thinking what's the aesthetic to go for, and I started thinking about David Lynch's
Eraserhead ... it has all these black and white visuals of industrial concrete, huge waterways and retaining walls, but with this dreamlike, disturbing look to it.
And then I come back and somebody's posted a photo of the Tokyo sewers and there's a David Lynch reference. So I'm not the only one that noticed.

I'm pretty sure this is the sewer where they filmed an SUV commercial, where it turns off a Tokyo street into a sewer. Also looks like a big cistern, like in Istanbul.
Lots of movies have big sewers, but not quite the cyberpunk feel ... you'd have to light it and set it up right.

In that case you should watch Ghost in the Shell's PPV series
I've seen it. ... It's just watching the movie again that triggered my thinking. That show feels much more significant than the sum of its parts. I still feel like it's holding something back, though, but it's definitely the champion of its genre.
Anyway, back on topic, what I've always liked about stealth gameplay is that it makes you really pay attention to the environment more than other types. So when you have a setting where subtlety has a big impact, stealth is the way to showcase it, it seems to me.

Dethtoll, I can't quite see why you'd like a sewer setting in a cyber-punk game, but perhaps that's why it'd work. Any specific reason, or do you just like going there in games?
I'm a sucker for man-made, underground tunnels and other structures in large cities. So, sewers, abandoned subways, et cetera. Which I think would be great for cyberpunk horror.
Hm. You know, there was this one anime I saw last year called Kakurenbo which suits the cyberpunk horror setting
extremely well, suggest you go find it. It's quite good- it's about a closed-off section of a city in Japan where these kids sneak in and play hide and seek, only to disappear one by one. So a futuristic version of the THC/RTC levels would be
awesome.

So. When is this project getting started? :D

There's this one game that hasn't been mentioned (in this thread at least), called (
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/prisonerofwar/index.html) Prisoner of War.
I bought it a few weeks ago from a bargain bin, but I've yet to try it since I'm too busy with STALKER, The Witcher and Thief FMs :p
"Prisoner of War is quite different from other 'stealth 'em ups' in that, although other 'stealth 'em ups' utilise some small form of violence for the player to achieve his objectives, this game portrays little to no violence. For example, if the Nazi guards on duty, spot the player acting suspiciously, they will not shoot on sight. Instead, they will call on the player to cease his activity. If the player continues to disobey the guard, the guard will shoot him. There are other similar such scenarios for the player losing. If the player is near the guard when he is caught acting suspiciously, he will automatically surrender and lose. These scenarios open up a whole new dimension of ideas for the player to achieve his objectives, but the key aspect to the completion of this game is stealth." (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_War_%28video_game%29) Wikipedia
And after I read about 'character interaction' and 'player inventory' the game looks like it could actually be quite good.. I have to try it some day. Has anyone played it?

that sounds very intriguing. never heard of prisoner of war....
maybe you could play just a few missions and give us some feedback...

Anyone heard anything new? Seems there are no stealth games coming soon, and that's a shame.

Just yesterday I had a brainstorm for a mouse breaking into a mansion to nab some cheese, guarded by lots of giant cats and traps of course. And I thought about this thread. One more stealth game idea to add to the Darkmod "branching out" list.

Oooh, oooh - with semi-destructable skirting boards from which you can scratch away a limited number of holes each time you play. Strategically plan routes between rooms.
