I thought K&L did fairly well financially. Didn't they release a bar graph a while back showing how much the franchisees made?

Jeez.
They got Eidos for $120m too the cheap bastards.
Unless you like Final Fantasy, then they haven't really done anything worthwhile

I try to remember if Japanese companies have a good record when they take over 'Western' games companies, but I can't.

OK, this is patently not true. Xenogears, Vagrant Story, the Front Mission series, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Valkyrie Profile... all those are mighty fine titles.

They sent out a twitter two days ago saying DX4 was coming along nicely and the T4 team was gearing up, probably to quell any panic at the buyout news.

I just hope this doesnt jeopardize Thief 4, or Deus Ex 3.
I don't
think we have too much to worry about for the moment. If I recall correctly, I remember reading an interview with one of the big names at Square Enix and he mentioned that they really wanted to "get their hands" on the Thief series. (That particular quote may have actually been from Bethesda, now that I think about it, but Square Enix did express positive feelings about Thief) It was either that or they thought that the Thief series has great potential. Either way, it sounded promising. On the condition, of course, that Garrett doesn't have spiky hair, a massive sword and prefers turn-based combat.
