Knackering.
I'm not quite sure I'm doing it right as I'm finding it very tough atm but then I did read some user reviews that say it all changes, for the better, after your first 10 fights. It's pretty interesting in that if you flail you fail (oh lulz!) and I'll suddenly realise I'm doing haymakers instead of controlled hooks because I'm not connecting.
Haven't explore the MP yet but I imagine grudge matches being worse than in a 2D fighting game (like the terrible Soul Calibur scraps) because of the nature of the controls. I'm playing it with 2 Move Controllers (yes, it's not cheap to get the whole set-up) and the 1 to 1 mapping is impressive so far.
Oh, and I'll take you all on on the streets on MP anytime. Ese.

This game makes you work for it quite a bit before it really shows you what it's got. If you don't hit the virtual gym and get your stats up, it's not going to be a pleasant experience. A game that requires you to do actual physical exercise before you can play properly is an alien concept, probably why the critics hit this game up so bad. Too bad though - if you had to do physical exercise to level up in say, World of Warcraft, we'd be a nation of motherfucking Chuck Norrises.
That said, once you've done your virtual time, the game pays off in spades. Those previews of the move were not bullshit - this game sense you properly. And you actually have a lot of freedom. You throw a right hook which drops or swings wildly, your in game punch is going to drop or swing wildly. Punch like a bitch, and you're gonna hit like one.
But then you get those moments of sheer bliss where you catch your opponents jab in a block, leaving their face wide open and WHAM - Lights out. Then a second later you realize - yes, you did an outer block with your left hand, and it worked like a outer block would, as did the follow up, and neither the controller nor the game missed a beat.
Bought the fucking wii expecting this kind of stuff. But the move actually delivers. Hell, I only bought the damn playstation to see if Demon's Souls was as nasty as they said.
There is one very significant flaw though - the camera. It lacks a first person view, or any form of transparency for the player's body. When fighting opponents who like to stay low, it's damn hard to even see what's going on.
SubJeff on 23/11/2010 at 06:59
Yeah, that lack of 1st person or even just a behind-head transparent mode is bugging. I love the way it gets me out of puff if I have a tough fight though. Reminds me of the feeling you get having a tough fight in a traditional beat-em up like Soul Calibur/Street Fighter - a sense of urgency as you both get to low health except with this my heart rate really is going up.
I do need to do more of the training though as there are some moves I'm just not pulling off in combat.

That sounds pretty goddamn sublime. I'm not planning on buying a PS3/Wii/Kinect anytime soon but it does sound like the motionsensetive gaming stuff is finally starting to live up to the hype we've been hearing for years.
Phatose on 24/11/2010 at 01:03
The more I play, the more I like this game. Motion controls aside, there is a significant tactical element because punches can get jammed. Throw a jab at arms length, it will hurt - do so when you opponent is right in your face, you won't get extension and won't do much. Start throwing haymaker hooks when they're close though....
At any rate it's surprising how the game makes time fly, considering how much is involved playing. Blink you eyes, and two hours have gone by and you're soaked in sweat.
SubJeff on 24/11/2010 at 09:29
Going to have to play some more then I'll be seeing you at the underpass Phatose.

After 4 sweat-soaked sessions I've burned 800 kcals (whatever those are) and won all the fights in the first 3 venues. Slowly but surely, this PS Move is molding my hands into LETHAL WEAPONS!
I love this. I've been meaning to work out for... years, now. But it hasn't happened. Probably because I hate working out. I love playing videogames though, so this is just the ticket. I like that I can upgrade my fighter over time as well, it gives the feeling of progress, even if the actual real-world progress isn't as impressive.
SE and Phatose, did you guys stick with this game till the end?
Also, your character is a bit translucent, you guys! Maybe they've added that in a recent patch or something.
SubJeff on 22/1/2014 at 19:11
I haven't played for ages and I didn't get very far because I got distracted by other games.
I think it's time to go back though.
And I'll take you on anytime henke.
