The Fighting TTLGers present: Arma 3 (a TTLG Coop Saturdays spin-off) - by Thirith

Mostly fun first session of 2019. We tried out the new official game mode, Warlords, a Capture The Island Mode that lets players buy units and equipment which is then parachuted in. It's probably not ideal for four players, but it was good to play a Bohemia Interactive game mode that doesn't just kill the players and laugh at their corpses. I enjoyed the game, though towards the end it insisted on having us ping pong between two towns; when we'd conquered the one, the other would be conquered by the enemy and vice versa. I do think, though, that with a larger group you could plan better, leave some troops behind to defend and generally act more strategically.

Question concerning tomorrow's Arma session: Rainbow Six Siege is doing a free weekend, and I've heard good things about it (including from Lord Penney). Should we postpone the Arma game by one or two weeks and try out Siege instead? Would anyone be in for that? (I'm not entirely sure how it works with teams smaller than the maximum number.)

Okay, my suggestion is that we install the weekend trial and then decide tomorrow - if that works for everyone in terms of how much space they've got left on their drives. Would that be okay?

Yeah, I did a double-take as well. Those who want to do some CQC with us tomorrow, make sure to start the download early!

Alrighty, played a few quite fun rounds of Bomb Defusal with Thirith and Sulphur. Here's our only successful run.
Note:Sulphur was already down by this point in the mission, and the recording isn't picking up my mic.

I have the feeling our success can be more chalked up to blind luck and blind AI than any brilliant planning on our end. :p

Thanks to henke and Sulphur for the game!
I enjoyed what we played of Rainbow Six Siege: it sits in an interesting place in between SWAT 4 and more twitchy shooters, and I think there's definitely potential there for good teamplay, but at the same time the AI isn't very interesting to fight, which is amplified by the indoors environments. I could imagine PvP being pretty fun, but you'd have to have even teams. All in all, it's the kind of game I'd get if several other TTLGers were interested in playing it on a more regular basis, but I wouldn't be pushing for it.

On a different note, since we postponed
