Long Live The Thief Universe.I'd like to join in that toast. :)
Plus, @Thief13x, there is very little reason to be angry with Eidos. Don't you think they were sorry to see LGS go? Were it not for Eidos, LGS would actually have closed sooner. :tsktsk:
All this according to James Sterrett in his article (
http://ttlg.com/articles/lgsclosing.asp) Reasons for the Fall: A Post-Mortem On Looking Glass Studios, available on this very site.
I suspect you'll discover that a small post edit would be prudent.

I actually read that article a few years ago, and again yesterday, right after I posted this. It is true that Eidos did a LOT to keep LGS going and even kept them afloat financially until they felt they couldn't anymore.
I don't really wanna turn this thread into a debate about blame, but here's my end. The anger I have towards Eidos stems from the fact that they gave other companies multiple passes on missed deadlines and continued to shovel cash at them, but firmly held Looking Glass Studios to the March 2000 deadline for Thief 2. After busting their asses (literally pulling all nighters sleeping in offices) to meet this deadline, successfully, Eidos chose to shut LGS down only 2 months after the release of a title that was more successful than Thief 1, the game that kept LGS afloat through the late 90's. Thief 2 cost less than 1/10th of Romero's runaway project which Eidos continued to fund despite missed deadlines and slow progress.
I understand that Eidos faced tough times and had to do something about it, but I strongly believe that closing LGS with Thief 2 Gold and Thief III in the works in light of the gigantic success Thief 1 and 2 experienced was a mistake.
In the words of ex LGS Software Engineer Bill Farquhar on Eidos..

You should also be angry at Romero and his Daikatana scam for draining Eidos' cash so they had non left over to save LGS ;)

true, but you can't blame Romero for asking for cash to finish his investment, but you can blame Eidos for being foolish enough to oblige.

Man, what I wouldn't do for that large, framed Looking Glass Studios logo from behind the reception desk.
Even a logo shirt would be great.

hell, how about all those Thief tshirts! I would snag one of those any day of the week!
