Currently sweating my ass off in the tropics
Okay, not literally, but you ever tried doing squats while it's 41 degrees celsius? Jeesh. The humidity and the temperature really make it harder to do the daily routine. There is not enough dry underwear in the world.

Speaking of Travel, I am currently in Arizona (ugh) visiting my family and, as such bikeless. So to get some movement instead, my sis and I left at 7am to catch some morning coolness and go for a 3hr walk to the pitiful Tucson downtown. Was already starting to get deathly hot on the way back, so we might leave even earlier tomorrow.

Go Brethren! Good luck man, looks pretty hardcore.
I don't think I'll ever be fit enough again to do Tough Guy :(

I was doing pretty well with the gym lately - 4 times a week of weights with cardio in between.
However I started my day by falling down the stairs and despite feeling ok save for some cuts and a really nasty gouge down one of my fingers, I have the feeling that any protracted load-bearing on my right leg might not be such a great idea for a while :(
[EDIT] Great - and this afternoon I managed to get my hand slammed in a car door. Today can chug a pail of dicks.

How were the electro shocks?
Renault on 21/5/2013 at 13:49
Of course, the buildup for the electroshock portion for me was far worse than the actual thing. I dunno, I got jolted 2-3 times, but just kept running through it. I saw others get zapped and get dropped to their knees or just fall on their face, so it just depends on the person and how direct the hit is I guess.
Still sore, 3 days later, btw. But it was fun, I'd do it again.

Okay, so it turns out falling into a cycle of hard weight training and bulking interspersed with back injury makes for a fat fuck.
The weight training kept my appetite up and I didn't change my habits when injured, so put on a stack of weight (count those chins). Then after a routine panel of blood tests with very high liver enzyme levels (ALT if anyone is interested), I needed an ultrasound which told me that I have fatty liver disease. Hepatology consultant tells me it's OK, fully reversible through weight loss. Without the weight loss (and eventual disappearance of fat from my internal organs), I could expect liver fibrosis leading to cirrhosis, plus greatly increased risk of coronary artery disease.
FUN TIMES.
So I've been eating a lot more healthy the last 3 months, playing squash twice a week (I'm awful at it), playing badminton twice a week (I'm not so bad at that) and doing light (lower weights, more reps, nothing which compresses the spine, lots of core strengthening) weights thrice a week and have lost 3 kilos since the diagnosis. I have also more or less stopped drinking alcohol more than once a month and I cycle to work and back.
Since I'm getting married next year and want to be in the best possible shape for that, and through the persistent encouragement of a friend, I have just signed myself up to do a triathlon next May. That's a 1500m swim followed by 40 km cycle and then a 10 km run. The hardest part of this will be the swim, since I have never been a strong swimmer and my front crawl technique is completely shit, meaning a good part of my training will be just learning how to do that properly. So yeah, here's hoping that the deadline aspect of that will turn into an in shape motherfucker in 6 months' time.

Its funny you should post this faetal, cos I am just starting a serious health regime, due to me having to have a hip replacement op in Jan. I have a genetic degenerative arthritic condition, and after a number of years of totally not looking after myself my right hip is now like half the size of my other, so bad that surgeon took one look at the MRI and said "that has to go dude". Seriously I need a walking stick to get around its that painful.
So now I have to restore my muscle tone in the right leg, which has pretty much wasted away to nothing. Injecting myself with crazy drug twice a month (god I hate needles), hydrotherapy for a while, and I can now finally cycle for about 2kms straight on a stationary bike. Got some free weights for upper body and core strength.
So now just gotta keep at it, and hopefully keep the recovery time after surgery down to 5-6 weeks. Then I will actually be able to walk properly again, maybe even run and kick a ball around with my kids.
