Just because you have endurance and/or power doesn't mean you have a lot of raw strength. You see that a lot of the time if you run. There's a lot of guys who can sprint all day long, but ask them to strap on a heavy pack and hike a few miles and they'll be dying by the time they get there.
Yea, but it's surprising my legs were even worse than my pitiful arms I barely use :p And my calves are super chill all throughout, guess I know where all my biking went to :p need to work on my form...

This is reasonably true, I suppose. I'm finding that my general fitness, endurance and stamina are good, solid core from a lot of low intensity exercise like walking, dancing, sex, etc, low body fat % and all that, but I've barely developed any strength in my upper body, back or legs. At the moment with 1 bootcamp focusing on high intensity "core" cardio and 1 PT session focussing entirely on squats, lifts, chin ups, push ups, etc, I'm hoping to see some results with a bit of dedication.
It helps that since Dry July I've actively cut back on my drinking and I've generally ate healthily my entire life. I'm keen to see how it takes shape...

Hey guys, I recently decided that I too would like to not get a heartattack, so I'm gonna try to improve my diet. I'm not really an excercise guy. I go for walks 1 or 2 times a day but that's it. Anyway, I decided to try to cut out bad carbs. This is what I'm doing:
-Switching from Coke to mineral water or orange juice.
-Eating less pasta and more potatoes.
-Less white bread and more dark bread.
-Less candy and crisps and cheese-on-crackers and more fruits and vegetables. (I love cheese-on-crackers tho so I don't know how long I can hold out on this one)
Still gonna eat plenty of meat and butter and fat stuff. From my research, which consisted of looking at a couple websites, this oughta do it! Slim me down in no time! (or at least help a little bit) Never gone on a diet before, so if any of you health pros wanna give me some pointers that'd be appreciated!

I am probably one of the last people to take dietary advice from, but I thought that most pasta has a lower glycemic index than potatoes.
(Good luck with your eating healthier.)

Walking at least a half hour (preferably an hour) a day, has numerous benefits to one's metabolic system...and makes a huge difference to your overall health and well-being.

Stick to water as much as possible...Although orange juice is much better for you than Coke, it still contains a lot of sugar, which is unhealthy if consumed in large quantities.

Pasta is a "bad carb"...Eliminating pasta is the answer here, because it uses wheat grain that contains gluten and lectins which compromises one's biology...Potatoes are a starch, and should be kept to a minimum.

Although dark, unprocessed bread contains more nutrients, it also contains more lectins that are not removed during the processing of white bread...Try eliminating bread completely, if you can...as all bread is "bad carbs", containing gluten and lectins.

I highly recommend the (

Eat fruit, vegetables and fish (fresh fish if possible, fished a few hours back, common here)
Olive oil in salads.
Potatoes yeah, better not fried (fried with butter must be poison, a sacrilege here)
Ah, the most important: eat half the amount you normally eat.

Oils
Consume:
Fish Oil
Olive Oil
Avocado Oil
Coconut Oil
Macadamia Oil
Grass-fed Butter
Avoid:
Soybean Oil
Corn Oil
Cottonseed Oil
Canola Oil
Sunflower Oil
Sesame Oil
Grapeseed Oil
Safflower Oil
Rice Bran Oil
Butter
Grass-fed butter contains K2 MK-7, which is a vital nutrient that correctly distributes calcium and other minerals to bones and teeth...Without enough K2, distribution of these minerals becomes random, and much of them end up in the soft tissues and arteries, greatly contributing to cardiovascular health issues.

Hmm, are you saying you just don't want to give it up? Or is it intentional, along the lines of the Atkins diet (low carb, high fat)? Because everything I've read on those types of diets said that while you can definitely lose weight, they're not the best for your health/body. I'm not an expert by any means though.
Also, I've been eating more fish, but you have to eat the (
http://www.nrdc.org/health/effects/mercury/guide.asp) right kind of fish (i.e. low mercury levels).
Vae on 28/9/2014 at 01:25
The "right kind of fish", as far nutrition is concerned, is the one's that contain the highest amount of omega-3 fatty acids...such as Tuna, Salmon, and Mackerel.
A good strategy to avoid consuming too much mercury and still getting the omega-3 benefits, is to eat them sparingly...whilst supplementing with a high quality, filtered fish oil.

Yes! This is the kinda feedback I was hoping for. :)

The decision to try dieting was sparked by reading that one could do so without giving up meat and butter, which is something I have no intention of doing. Neither am I gonna give up dairy products or bread. I'm just looking for smaller
managable changes to my diet that'll help out in the long term.

Pffft. Well that's not gonna happen.

Ah, I was afraid of that. Alright I can keep the juice to a minimum.

Hmm. Well when I make my dinner I usually have meat and something else on the side. Pasta, potatoes, fried potatoes, fries, or rice ((
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasmine_rice) Jasmine rice, usually). If I know myself I'm gonna keep on having all of those, but which ones are the least harmful?
And yeah I'll make sure to eat more fish. I love tuna and salmon and I'm not sure why I don't eat more of the stuff. Not big on oils tho, but maybe I'll get some olive oil.
