As opposed, of course, to the other,
non-digital kind of download.
I'm not sure if you had it in the US but many years ago I remember a Saturday morning TV show doing analogue downloads. You would have to hook your computer to the TV audio output and load the program when they played it over the air. I seem to remember the success rate was pretty low but it was an interesting concept at the time.

Talking of downloads, digital or other (): man, the full download of FSO is *huge*! I guess those fan mods are pretty damn big... I've been downloading for hours but no end in sight.

That sounds hilariously weird.

I was just being cute with the paleo-termonology like it's some flashy newfangled idea, going back to when digital download was like the industry term of art for it for dumb people, and it makes you think of the industry and gamers from then, way behind the curve. But whatever. "In the future, everybody will just download all their games." There you go.

BTW, I've seen at least one game distributed on a USB flash drive, and IIRC it's plug and play
Now that's a cool idea. USBs are much more convenient than CDs, just in terms of use and damage resistance. Maybe easier to lose, though.

And certainly awkward to store. I sure wouldn't like to keep track of dozens of those little suckers.

I take it you've never owned a GameBoy.

A Gameboy Advanced would be the better comparison here. The cartridges for it are roughly the same size of a bog standard USB thumbdrive.

Yeah. They were just as goofy. What's your point?

I don't mind a stack of CDs next to my computer, but I do prefer to download my games. USB drive games sounds like a step sideways.
