I was momentarily excited about the prospect of both a Deus Ex 3 and a Thief 4.
Deus Ex 3 is not being cancelled.
René, that works for Eidos Montreal and is always at the DX3 forum, said that the restructuring is cutting a lot of projects but that Eidos wants to focus at the DX3 that is already in development as an AAA title as good as their most valued properties such as Tomb Raider and Hitman.
But yes, "cutting projects" may mean that T4 will be delayed or cancelled. (But seriously guys it´s not like it will never be done, the game companies know that Thief has a powerful value to the game community and they will make a sequel, one day...)

I couldn't care less about WHO buys EIDOS. What happens to the game we know and love is my worry.
Most of said companies will probably put it in the "file and forget" basket.
Let's face it. World wide there ain't enough of us taffers to make it profitable. Not enough "If it moves kill it!" to interest the blood thirsty teeners and tweeners. And the game requires that the player think and not depend on a gang of buddies to cover his screwup (Call of Duty etc.).
On line multi, is a poor option for the game, and the crop of novice gamers don't have the patience, and only know consoles. And a console is the worst possible platform for the game we want.

that's a slightly cliched view of most of those companies. EA would never make another Thief, because it's not financially viable to make one per year.
True, but cliches can often prove to be the truth; "tried-and-true" is so overused nowadays it's not even funny. Their desire to make a different product than their "tried-and-true" methods is negligible, at best.

There's a lot of bad you can say about EA, but I've had opportunity to work for developer who is an EA's contractor, and I must say the EA guys have been actually helpful. Little time pressure, useful design insight, nonoffensive marketing. Admittedly, their playtesters seemed a little clueless. Right now, EA are trying to improve their image, which means they have an incentive to give an "uncommon" project a chance. They did publish Mirror's Edge, after all.
On the other hand, I've heard some unfavourable rumours about Ubi recently. This is a bit of disappointment to me, because I've hoped they would buy or found a local gamedev studio one day, like they did in Romania.
By the way, not that I want to curb your enthusiasm, but from what I've heard so far, nobody's really interested in Thief as a "franchise". If someone buys Eidos, they may just put Thief on shelf (unless there's already one in works, in which case they will probably wait until the end of preproduction and then put it on shelf).
Hmmm... I have heard that EA was trying to improve itself, but I've had a very strong negative opinion of them ever since they gave Origin the boot.

Speaking for myself, I'd be a lot more excited about news along the lines of "The Dark Mod released today, taffers celebrate in the streets" or (maybe even better) "taffers reverse-engineer Dark Engine, brush and polygon limits lifted".
Oh yeah, that's more like it! :thumb:

Let me know what error message is triggered when a limit is hit and I'll see if the limit can be changed.

Naw. They just curse and berate, erect shrines to their egos, and get all pornographic. But underneath, it's the same embitterment and cynicism.:joke:

My ego will stop for nothing smaller than a Hammerite cathedral.
I was planning to insert some joke about how programmers call each new iteration of their program "a build", which implies they are Builders, but that would probably be too obscure.

Nah, I just have a moral thing against EA (Blizzard notwithstanding). Also, Square isn't on my "top game dudes" list because their games tend to be so similar.

The idea of using Assassin's Creed stuff in a Thief 4 would be cool. Imagine being able to move like The AC guy (can't remember his name) and sneak like Garrett. You could make flying KO's from a mile in the air! The Thieve's Highway would be extraordinary, with beautiful skylines and cityscenes.
I think that would be a good way to go with it.
