Some times ago I have downloaded an old mission for Thief 1. It is called "The Gem". I'm running in circles there, and I did not find a threat here about that mission. (Maybe, because the name of the mission is so short?)
Well, I have got Worthington's ruby. Then a man came out of a door and began to speak to me, but I had to run away because the soldier was running to catch me. So I could not hear what this man has said. Now this man is gone (where to?) and I'm running in circles. At a special place I once heard now someone yell "I can see you, hehe, I can see you!", but I did not see this guy. And on another place (in the near of Farkus' house) now I hear someone making noises but I don't see anybody.
How can I get into Worthington's mansion? There is just an unopenable gate with a note that the gate is closed due to construction. I suppose the mansion is behind that gate.

You need to just start over (the mission is short, so it's no problem) and talk to that man to get the key (IIRC)

No, that doesn't work.
This guy doesn't have a key. He wants some money. I have 100 in gold, however I can't give it to him. I say "go out of my way, old man". And then he attacks me and says "give me some money".
Is this the wrong guy? I actually have found four persons:
1.) Farkus who is going into his house after he spoke to me.
2.) A soldier.
3.) A man that was sleeping in a house.
4.) That guy that disappeared after I have stolen the gem.
However I don't know how to enter the mansion.

If you've stolen the gem, haven't you been in the mansion already? I never got that objective to check off properly and so couldn't get the mission to complete.

It seems that I have not been there.
I was only in a small house, where I have found the gem. But I wasn't in the mansion. (Obviosly, the gem isn't in the mansion.)
Actually I have the following objectives:
1.) Find Worthington's manor and get inside.
(Unchecked)
2.) Find and get Wortghington's gem.
(Checked)
3.) Take the gem home with you.
(Unchecked)
4.) Don't kill anyone.
(Unchecked)
When I go back to the starting point the game doesn't end because Quests 1,3 and 4 are not solved. (Well, Quest 4 can only be crossed resulting in "game over", when I kill somebody, I tried it out.)
So where is Worthington's manor?
Is it behind the gate near the house where the gem was?

As far as I can recall, that small house IS Worthington's "manor". If there's someplace else to go, I never found it.
Don't forget that many of these really old missions were quite buggy and some of them don't work well with TG, which can cause problems with objectives not checking off properly and objective changes not showing up. I doubt this one is really worth too much effort as it's very small and uncomplicated.

The mansion is just the little house at the end of the road that turns around that spot where the water is and there is a dock there in front of the house.

This has nothing to with the topic at hand, but I've always wondered -
Gerhard, why do you always insert your name at the beginning of each post?

If there's problems with objective checking(not only in this T1 mission), then use TDP convict.osm instead of TG one.
