@ The Mike, I'm 100 and 1 % sure who made BurrickBoy but i can't say even though i'm dying to! ARRRGH! Come ooon, which taffer loves Burricks so much? Hehe! :laff:
I KNOW WHO YOU ARE! :ebil:
PS. As for who made The Haunting? I haven't a CLUE!
Yandros on 9/3/2004 at 18:00
It's very easy to figure out who did Burrick Boy, if you know what to look for.
I would never have dreamed of doing the reflecting floor trick used in The Haunting. I have tried to make objects and doors that AI can walk through, but not the player (the opposite of The Haunting) for my FM The Circulation of Shadows, but never could get it working perfectly. I can only imagine the scripting and pathfinding tricks that the author of The Haunting must have used to get AI to open doors and not walk through walls which the player can pass through effortlessly.
@The Mike - I tried that on the telescope and he never alerted. Thanks for the piano tip though, I'll have to load a save to see that in action.
@bukary -
Keep trying, it may depend on how much you scare them. In my game (on Easy) they ran out on Night 7, but I only had two visits from the priest to deal with. It may be on higher difficulties that he comes back more often and also it takes longer to get rid of the couple.
Komag: When are you going to announce/publish a list of the authors' names? You know how much everyone loves guessing who did what...
Moghedian on 10/3/2004 at 04:26
The person I thought did "The Haunting" didn't ... unless they needed a clue for their own mission :joke: The exorcisms were scary... that darn priest kept following me around the whole place, and got me a couple of times :grr: Eventually, those people left , just couldn't take the salt (and the piano, and the papers... ) :thumb:

This is certainly the mission with the most technical wizardry I've seen so far in this contest. Just watching those two people with all their custom motions is already amazing. The reflecting floor is a fantastic addition, and those numerous custom objects give the FM a unique feel (love the new safe door). It's fun freaking the couple out, although I agree it got a bit tiresome doing the same things night after night. Fortunately, the priest added some thrill later on.
It'd have been great if there had been new objects to play with each night, but I guess the contest's deadline needed to be met, and even more scripting trickery would have caused the mission to explode.
I suspect that the author is mentioned in the credits list of the FM's readme file to get us off the track ;)

I agree. This person is not only a master of custom objects, but extremely knowledgeable about custom motions. The list of FM authors who could have pulled off this mission is pretty short - anyone who visits TEG often should know the 4 names I have in mind. :cheeky:

I played expert level. Had to do the first 4 nights over because of a glitch. I forgot to save from time to time.
I really had fun but thought it was a bit long myself.
I think that 2 nights of haunting and then calling in the priest would have tightened things up a bit.
More stuff to manipulate would have been cool but I'm sure would have requiered MUCH more work by the designer.
Still, an AMAZING:eek:  accomplishment.

Is this perhaps the same problem I ran into?
I finished Night four, and the fellow announced to calling on a priest when the morning came.. The first time, a priest walked in and I heard lots of walking (but saw no one). The next reload, the murderer finally tried to get in the room, though he got stuck in the doorway while the priest waited. Subsequent loads from Night 4 have resulted in the same. Bah, I have to do this over again? :( EDIT: I had just finished the 3rd night, actually
Fantastic mission, indeed. I was going to say "Into the Maelstrom" was "TEH BEST", but this at least exceeds it in technical prowess. Damn, some complicated stuff.
EDIT: Bah, right after I post this and restart from the last save for the upteenth time it works! Sly, you are one lucky taffuh *kisses him full on the lips - and he's not even gay!* :laff:

When the guy gets stuck walking back and forth in the doorway, just save and reload.

I figured it was already 'broken' by that point, so reloaded the save from the night before (just before they go to bed.. not too much longer to wait, but still annoying after 5-6 times of the same problem). I hope the author of this decides to expand upon the original idea, though as Sly said, lord knows how much work all
this took. Would definitely tie for
Into the Maelstrom, imho, if we didn't have to do the same thing night after night. The priest definitely was classic,
and I loved those holy waves of light.. Reminded me of Dragon Ball Z for a moment :laff:So how many nights is it on "Ghost"? 10? 12?

Expanding on this concept would have to REALLY expand it to be worthwhile. As is, viewed strictly from a gameplay perspective, it's essentially a somewhat dull Tamagotchi game. Just push all the right buttons over and over until they leave.
Technically it's quite impressive, though it does perhaps best serve to demonstrate some things that you really shouldn't try to do with the Dark engine.
