SpaceChem has been added to the Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle.
RPS have given SpaceChem plenty of coverage, so I'll just link to them:

My summary version of their coverage is:
* Brilliant puzzle game.
* Chemistry theme purely aesthetic; no chemistry knowledge is required (nor should any be applied).
* Interface could probably be better.
* Becomes hard as hell. You
will be challenged.

If you're like me, you'll be seriously challenged before you've even finished the tutorial levels :(
I'm glad I bought it just to bask in its brilliance, but solving any puzzles past the first world and a half requires more time and patience than I'm willing to give it, and I imagine in not too long I'd hit a "hard cap" where I just wasn't bright enough to figure it out.

Considering Manufactoria was once kind of popular here, I find it strange that SpaceChem never had its own thread. Is it because the game is too challenging and everyone gave up?

Yes. I tried demos for RUSH and Spacechem around the same time. Bought RUSH and didn't finish the second tutorial of Spacechem. A puzzle game should be easy enough to pick up and get progressively more difficult. Spacechem was just too much upfront.
