Yeah, Metroid 2 is pretty linear, its just easy to get lost in the caverns while hunting that last Metroid. Especially as some of the areas are pretty large. I do like the scare factor though, you get used to battling one form of metroid and then just as you get to what looks like another one of the same, it finishes pupating and emerges as a new improved foe with unknown capabilities.
Fusion is a really good game, its just not quite as good as super metroid. (but better than metroid 2 I think.)
Aquaria is more like super metroid than the others in the series.

Yeah pretty much most Metroid clones (including the Castlevania series, which kinda got the whole concept of Metroid-alikes started) draw from Super Metroid.
You know, one of these days, I'm going to play through Symphony of the Night again. Just... it's always memories of how stupid the Inverted Castle is that stop me.

I've always meant to go out and play Super Metroid on an SNES emulator, just never got around to it ...
d0om, in the end (once I stopped exploring near the abyss) I went east to Mithalas. Damn that's a big boss! Dethtoll's right: the earlier bosses look like wimps. I only had time for one go at him, and was soundly stomped on, but I've got a few ideas about where I went wrong.
As far as movement goes, I find I switch between mouse and keyboard all the time. Being able to aim and move is nice, but I often find that my energy bolts do a good enough job of auto aiming by themselves. And mouse movement is much more precise.

That's funny, I always meant to play Super Metroid on a fucking SUPER NINTENDO. I would settle for an emulator...
But to set out to pirate/emulate? Sad. I saw that game at a freaking garage sale last week for $3.

Who says that you have to pirate old Nintendo games? Most of the key titles of the NES to N64 are available for sale on the Wii's Virtual Console service.

Mountains out of molehills, Gunny. I'm not actually "setting out" to pirate/emulate snes games ... in fact, I'm not currently "setting out" to play any snes games at all.
If buying a super nintendo happens to be a convienient option at some time, and if I felt like playing any snes games at that time, then I'd do so. It is more likely, however, that an emulator will be the path of least resistance. I don't really give a shit either way.

We're all up in arms over emulators now?
For Super Metroid, I will actively encourage everyone to pirate or steal or trade your dog or do whatever it takes to get it.

I still have my working SNES and SuperMetroid cart, so feel free to come round to my house and play! :)
(Although the battery backup in the cart might have gone which means you can't save :()
