I'd really love for this sort of gameplay in another context other than a simulator, say an archeological game where you explore a highly detailed island looking for artifacts and structures from a lost civilization.
I keep thinking a remake/re-imagining of something like (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jurassic_Park:_Trespasser) Trespasser could be great in a really immersive, open-world setting like this.
Although a game like Myst set on a huge island would be pretty cool too.

I saw this and was thinking of an archaeology sim too. But it's an idea I've had for a long time... Like exploring the Cambodian jungles for lost temples and relics without expecting some zombie to start chasing after you. Just pure exploration and discovery.
Yeah the red pop ups are a kind of necessary evil. You really do need to notice the tracks & marks, so it'd need to flag them one way or another. The only other way I could think is if an image would come up on your PDA with the popup there, but that's kind of inconvenient too, so it's ok.
I'm getting pretty good at this. In the first 15 or 20 minutes I could bag two mule deer, one of them from 60m away (like ~200 feet). At another time I saw a group of three of them grazing together, I got one but I realized the real challenge would have been to get 2 or 3, because you know whichever one you shoot first, the other two are going to bolt and you'd have to get them on the run if at all.
That's a cool find with the rope bridge. Around where is it? I'd also like to get up close to the mountains I see in the distance, but I understand the free version has that area locked out... It'd just take a long hike out there to confirm it.

If you check the map there's a !-icon around the middle of the map. That's where it is.

I'm enjoying the game for what it is but honestly I'd love some more interactivity as well. After walking through kilometers of wilderness and finally spotting a powerstation on the south coast I started hoping that maybe I'd be able to go into it and have a look around. Or maybe flip a switch which would turn on the power and open some other area of the island or something crazy like that. But nope. The whole place was fenced in so I couldn't even walk up to the building. Even fired a shot into the gate to see if it would open, but no go. :erg:

Well my own personal goal, & to make a sort of objective to shoot for out of this game -- while all you tots gimp around in Dishonored (or is it gimps that tot around) -- is to hit a target from the farthest possible distance. Right now it's 285 feet... I'm trying to get at least over 300 feet so it's the length of a (US) football field. Won't that be something... =V

that'll be something alright! :U
