Don't you think the intro is kind of unrelated to the game? It could just as well be left out entirely, and it would harldy make any difference. Nothing good to say about the endings either.
Anyway, who is that Aquinas who "spoke of the mythical city on the hill"?

Imho, the intro is good related to the game, and for me was an amazing surprise (hmm... spoiler ahead? =) to arrive in VersaLife and see this hand and globe monument, where Page and Simons were standing in the beginning. Also, there were characters whom you'd get to know later in the game, characters and places where you'd want to arrive...
And, endings were connected with intro, too. I liked the irony when JC was talking with Everett (illuminati ending...) - where's the difference between Page and Simons talking in the beginning? =) (But I liked Helios ending the best...)
And, Aquinas -- I think they've mean 1) Thomas Aquinas, a great saint and phylosopher of medieval times and 2) may be their AI (Aquinas hub, remember?) loved to quote Thomas Aquinas (about city on the hill, etc) so they were playing with this name...
As a medieval *legend* says, Albert the Great, master and teacher of Aquinas, created a first android in history (XIII century!) , - his human-like mechanical servant was called "android"... and Thomas Aquinas destroyed this mashine. He was against that "artifical life" Albert made... So there's another irony to name an AI after Aquinas... =)

The intro rocks, and the endings were adequate and nicely open ended, leaving us with the question, "What happens now?"

I loved the intro. The script, music, and camerawork were perfection! The sound picked up at just the right points, and I loved the scene with the UNATCO people on/near the statue platform. I was immediately pulled in my the script, and it fascinated me and motivated me to play hard and long. My favorite line:
"A bunch of pretentious old men playing at running the world"
But the world left them behind long ago. We are the future"
Awesome, awesome, awesome stuff.

On the other hand, what the heck is the drug dealer from Paris doing at that UNATCO ceremony?

Wait, I take it back (partially). I hadn't viewed the intro for some time before I posted - I had forgotten some parts :)
But some of the dialogue between Bob and Walton didn't make much sense.
Aquinas was an internet protocol in the game. But not any AI was named Aquinas. Or was it? I remember Daedalus, Icarus, Morpheus, Helios.
I think there was some mention of Thomas Aquinas in the game (in a book or something), but I don't think it said much about him.
Hmm... androids in the XIII century! Reminds me of Thief II :)
... maybe Garrett is really Aquinas. But has Garret spoken of a mythical city on the hill? I don't think so. Will he speak of such a city in Thief III? Will there be crocodiles in that city? Are they well-fed or hungry? ...
sorry :)

The intro was all nice and dramatic and all but it gave away too much. The point of the game is that you're not supposed to know who the real badguys are and whether you're truly on the side of right or wrong but then the game blows it's load right there and shows you the two biggest villians in the game. It's kinda retarded in hindsight. When you run into the characters half-way through the game you already know that they're up to no good.

You're right Monkeysee.
PS. Where does your name come from?
Dew-Drop on 26/4/2001 at 03:03
You gotta love the way it zooms in on Page's eye! Haha, but the whole thing.. it gives too much away, they could have done better. They could have done it in a more incomprehensible, mysterious manner, in which it's not so obvious

They named a protocol, or AI complex after Aquinas... I don't know what they've really mean by "Aquinas hub", but I think this name was somewhat applicable to AI complex.
What about AI named Morpheus, I think it's a perfect joke for all Matrix lovers 8)
I didn't imagine, ever, that MiB name wasn't stolen from "MiB" movie... but, in turn, I figured out yesterday that these MiB rumours were connected to MJ12 first and much earlier... how interesting...
