I added the spoiler cover to your post, but if you read the intro on the Darkloader screen, Sledge asked that the code to the vault not be posted on the forums, so it might be better if you edit it out (though it's probably not a big deal after all this time. I'm sure almost everybody knows what it is now.)
To get the stone that's damaging you,
you need to look around down there for an empty bottle that goes into your inventory, then you have to find a place to fill it. Use that one the stone so you can pick it up. :)
Hi guys! I`ve strated playng such a wonderful mission recently. Already got a couple heart attacks and a few white hair on my head :-)! Such a chilling adventure indeed! Those "sleeping" zombies...BUILDER, SAVE ME!!!
I can`t enter the basement `cos i cannot find the right key. And btw how can i open the wooden door near the hall of tennets (i think it`s called this way. It`s on 3rd floor of the temple). Can you help me, o mighty master-thieves!!!!
Thanx in advance!
Best regards, Accolade Dark!

It's a good idea to post what difficulty setting you are playing on. Some missions can be quite different on some and Inverted Manse is one of them.
Since you are looking for the basement key, I'm presuming that you're playing on the easiest setting.
Once you're in the Factory, you need to find the church key, then go back to the church and you'll find a door upstairs that you couldn't unlock before. (This is probably the wood door that you mentioned.) The Factory Basement key is up there. The church key is in an office in the factory.
First of all make sure you mention the level you play at when talking about this mission, they are all very different. Luckily I recognise your current one by the symptoms :)
Anyway, the answer to both questions: search the factory.

Confession number 1 , I'm playing this mission on easy (wimp) level , as I always do when zombies are involved, and secondly.........I can't find the flippin' Inverted Manse !!
I've looked everywhere including previous threads but apparantly its just me thats had this problem . I have come across one or two promising looking doors but have yet to find any keys . Any help please ? Its a very good but creepy mission , I can still hear those jingly haunt things when the computer is off and I'm driving into work.........

O! This is GREAT mission if you ask me!!! I think this is the only way "Thief" should be. Creepy, bloodchilling and appallingly real!!! When i started playing it i felt just the same way as i did when i played "Thief"The Dark Project" for the first time. I mean i managed to stay in same ready-to-jump-position, with my eyes and my mouth opened wide, with my heart full of primal fear for several hours on end. Yesterday i finished my selfexecution. Have you been to the factory basement, have you heard those bloodcurdling moans of the once killed? If you did then you surely encountered a door you couldn`t open in one of the numerous corridors. That`s the way into the Manse, the Inverted one. The key is in the Temple, on the 3rd floor, behind the wooden door.
That`s it. I wish i was helpful.
Sorry for my English.
Best regards, Accolade Dark

Madwolf -
On Cutpurse, you need to find the Church key, in one of the factory rooms. Have you got it yet? When you do, go back to the Church and all the way upstairs to the door in the little chapel. It unlocks with the Church key and inside, you'll find the key you need to get you into the factory basement, which is where you'll find the entrance to the Manse area.
Appreciate the help accolated , trouble is , that door in the church is one of the many I couldn't find a key to !I agree incidently it is a great mission , marred only by the fact that its turning into a protracted key hunt . Whats the point of having lockpicks in that case ? Not to raise anybodys' hackles......... its just a personal quibble.
madwolf on 24/6/2002 at 11:57
Thanks again Nightwalker , do you ever sleep ?
I was actually replying to accolated when I came upon your post . I've not found any keys as yet but I'll have a look down there again :)

The "key hunt" in Inverted Manse only exists on Cutpurse. If you don't enjoy that part of it, play it on one of the other settings. It's almost an entirely different mission! :)
If you don't find the key, just post back and I'll check and see where it is for you.
