I don't remember the combination being different for each difficulty.
It isn't, unless there's some weirdness going on somewhere. According to the walkthroughs, you have to collect enough clues or info in Cutpurse and Rogue, that by the time you're in Warrior mode, you've got a clear idea of the combination.

The combination is
2-1-N-5.
I remember for certain that the original combination was
B-A-N-E, and that there were no number buttons. Noticing that the numbers in your combination correspond to the alphabetic index of the correct letter, I wonder if somehow a mod or enhancement pack is changing letter buttons to number buttons in your mission by overriding the letter textures in Sledge's original, which would have had to be custom and probably used the same filenames as the number buttons for the first 10 letters.

Ricebug's combo worked for me, but that would be because we both were given a button panel that substituted the digits 1-9 for the letters a-i. I don't see a different version of the mission available anywhere (ver1.1) so it's not that.
This would make the hints presented in the mission totally confusing seeing as they would point to a solution of B-A-N-E not 2-1-N-5. For anyone playing the mission for the first time and getting the numbers instead of letters, they would be unable to decipher the hints.
I haven't tried Ricebug's solution of disabling any mods in order to revert back to "all letters" on the button panel because I don't have (or can't find) any CAM_MOD.INI file.

I just fired up the mission with all of the standard mods installed by Tafferpatcher enabled, and all I'm seeing is letters. So it must be something else, like a corrupted install. Or are you guys by chance using one of the HD mods?
Clock on 3/8/2016 at 20:07
I don't have any mods installed as far as I'm aware. The reason I don't know is because my install of Thief2 & Thief Gold is via Steam. They claim to install all needed accessories which I'm sure include the mods that make the resolutions better, but I don't see any source files to play with. Apparently, whatever setup Ricebug has, I also have, seeing as he gave me the proper combination for a button panel that includes numbers with letters.
I don't know what an HD mod is, so I don't know if I'm using it or not.
btw....I've started on Rogue difficulty and immediately went back to the vault. The button panel still contains numbers & letters instead of just letters.

The buttons wouldn't change by difficulty, it has to be something in your setup (and Ricebug's) which is replacing the FM's A-J buttons with numbers.
Edit:
Looking in the FM ZIP file, I see that Sledge did indeed name the letter buttons button1, button2, ... button26. The problem with that is that the first 9 of those (button1 - button9) are named the same as the original number buttons, so presumably a mod you both have installed with replacement button1-9 textures (such as the EP) is taking precedence over the FM textures. It can probably be fixed by modifying your modpath, but it could also be fixed easily in Dromed by anyone who knows how. I don't mind taking that on and would even do a quick rebuild in NewDark to get 32bit lighting and better shadows as part of it.

I guess it's too old a mission for many people to even know about the problem. It's hard to believe I'm the only one who ran into this issue. Ricebug may be another one, because he had a combo that would work for a button panel that combines numbers and letters.
5 gold stars if you could fix it, but I'm not going to worry too much. I'm using the combination 2-1-N-5 and just carrying on.
I would anticipate newcomers to the mission to be totally confused by the hints.

I was surprised to see that the Steam version of Thief 2 is 1.18, in other words, non-New Dark.
@Clock - what are you using to load fan missions - Darkloader? Have you done any kind of updating to Thief using Tafferpatcher, or are you playing it with just a vanilla setup from Steam?
Edit:
OK, I was able to recreate Clock's scenario. I installed the Steam version of T2. The vanilla version is fine. But when you install Tafferpatcher, and subsequently the EP, I see both numbers and letters. Disabling the EP makes things look right again.
The weird thing is, I don't know why I'm not getting this on my regular T2 install. And neither install is using the ubermod path.

It may have to do with the order of precedence of the EP vs. the root /res folder in the Tafferpatcher install compared to your own. I'll mess around with the EP and my res/mod path and see if I can figure it out for sure.
I'm working up a fixed mission ZIP (which won't be affected by the EP or modpath) and should have something ready for testing tomorrow.
Edit:
Mike, I reproduced it but only by adding the EP to the
mod_path in cam_mod.ini; it doesn't use the EP textures if I only put it into darkinst.cfg on the
res_path, even if it's first before the /res folder. That's not what I would expect though given the comment for
mod_path says
Quote:
these are normal mod paths which are applied after the active FM in the search order
and
Quote:
the full path search order is (starting with highest priority)
uber_mod_path -> FM dir (if active) -> mod_path -> resname_base(/movie_path/etc.)
But at any rate... I'll have a simple fix done soon which also includes NewDark processing with 32-bit lighting. Out of respect for Sledge, I didn't touch any settings like ambient light settings etc. although I did enable light-mapped water, and I also had to set a shadow softness so I went with Medium.
Also... I just had to get the
ballistic missiles and run around blowing zombies up... :ebil:
