You guys are sure working overtime trying to solve this. Thanks to everyone for all their assistance. It would be constructive if we could get some kind of closure on it.
It's been a few years since I moved over from my traditional install of Thief2 to the Steam install. But I'm pretty sure I installed the New Dark mod because my resolution choices reflect that. I don't remember a Tafferpatcher install.
I use Garrettloader to load fan missions. I'm sure it's a coincidence, but since I tried to play the prequel to Inverted Manse first (Cult of the Resurrection which is a Thief Gold mission) it wouldn't play and now I get a popup window every time I run Garrettloader telling me my Game Directory may be out of sync. I'll go elsewhere to discuss this issue as I'm pretty sure it doesn't relate to the button panel configuration in Inverted Manse.

Finishing up the 3 difficulty levels, there were no other problems encountered.
So if you're playing this for the first time, when you come to the vault, there are 2 combinations that open the vault depending on the configuration of the button panel. The "all letter" combo is the original and the hints found in the mission(s) point to the solution. The number/letter combo cannot be deciphered using the hints and the solution is 2-1-N-5.
Each difficulty points to 2 secrets. One is the vault. I don't know what the other one is.
Regardless of the issue with the button panel, it's well worth playing.

Yup, merely commenting out the mod path (putting a semi-colon) was all I did to fix it.

How do I kill the invisible guardian? I don't have anything that has any effect on it.

I'm not sure if I'm right but I seem to recall that you have to sneak by them unless you've found the Easter Egg. Then you've got something special that will take them out.

Ok thank you Linda. I haven't found an Easter Egg but I shall look. I haven't found all of the secrets either. :D

I think I have run into a snag, because if the Easter Egg is where I think it is, I won't be able to reach it because the last objective I need to complete is to get out of the Manse. :o

That might be a problem. You should be able to ghost them without too much difficulty.
