Hi guys,
I know there is a jail mission should you fall in the water. I have played the game multiple times but for some reason I've never done this level. I've fallen in a few times, seen the beginning of the level but then reloaded. In hindsight I have no idea why, other than me seeing it as a type if failure....
.... but, what is the level for? What happens? How long is it? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing it?

Do you mean Pavelock prison (Thief: DS)?
You are taken to prison when you die in the City (NOT in a mission) - and this can happen only once a game (if you die in the City for the second time, you'll just see the re-load screen).
Advantages / disadvantages? See for youself.

Sorry Dront. You have it half right. In the Auldale mission if you drown in the park, you go to Pavelock.
In other missions you go the Pavelock the FIRST time you are killed by the City guards.

That's OK theBlackman, I'm glad here are people who remember this better than me. :)

No problem. You had the right idea and got most of it right. :thumb:

tBm, I have difficulties understanding what you are saying here, because Auldale as I understand it is no mission, just a regular city level.
Are you saying that if Garrett drowns himself repeatedly in Auldale, that he then can visit Pavelock repeatedly?
I don't have a savegame ready to test this personally. The closest is one just before Wieldstrom Museum and with a drained canal. In that savegame, I visited Pavelock just the day before, by drowning Garrett in Auldale's canal.

If you are the Lytha of my past (our past) then yes. In the Pagan park if you drop through the hatch under the sleeping Pagan, you fall into water, drown and wake up in Pavelock.
Just the first time you are "killed or drowned" Not more than once.
You can do the same in the docks if you jump for the boat and miss. But all are triggered only the first time. Subsequent attempts, just end you and the mission.

Thank you for the clarification. :)
This isn't then as good as it sounded on the first glance. I just began to hope that Garrett could visit Gammall's Lair for multiple times because Auldale might be the exception from the "only the first time" rule.
Hrm,... then I need to make more experiments what happens if Garrett dies by other means than city watch or drowning. For instance: jumping from rooftops or getting killed by murderous lunatics.

However, there's always a "however", if you escape Pavelock, and exit to the streets from the top of the stairs through the guard room, you can return as often as you like and make your way back down to free the prisoners, or rob the confiscated items.
As I mentioned, if you are killed in the streets (not just in the city quarters, or drown in the bay or in the pit in the park in Auldale) you end up in Pavelock. But... this only applies to the first death at the hands of the guards, or you drown.
A successful escape with the gates unlocked at the street entrance does permit you to reenter the prison later.
I don't know if suicide, or death at the hands of the enforcers or the hammerites in Ironwood would also do it, but it's an interesting thought. I may just try that.
If you do, come back and let us know what happened.

Fort Ironwork is very unlikely, just as Gammall's Lair or the Abysmal Gale would be. To be able to drag you off into the prison, the city watch guards should actually be on the map in which you die. Zombies would just turn you into one of their own kind, hammerites would turn you into a zombie and the put you into a furnace and blow you up, and Gammall would make new gloves out of your skin.
I'll do some experiments later on, as soon as I'm done compressing some videos. :)
When you say that you can visit Pavelock Prison again after having left it by the front entrance, do you then mean visiting it again on the same day, or on all the following days? I always leave it by the sewer grate, so I really have no clue.
Edit:
Here are the results of my test. The testing environment was Old Quarter, just before I entered the Cradle mission.
- getting killed by a hammerite and a keeper enforcer, without having the attention of or proximity to a city watch guard: Death.
- suicide by jumping off a roof, without the attention or proximity of a city watch guard: Death.
- getting killed by a city watch guard: Pavelock.
- getting the full attention of a city watch guard, then suicide by falling from the rooftop onto the pavement, right next to the guard: Death.
I think I should start a new game and test if you really can visit Pavelock on later days if you left it by the front gate. I don't have any saves just before the start of really short missions available and I don't feel like testing this with a long mission.
It would be extremely convenient for my purposes though! :)
.... and the results from that test: Yeah, the front gate seems to stay open. At least it did that between day 1 and 2, during which I did St. Edgar's Eve.
Interesting. :)
