Gotta fend off them Rat Beasts. It's the only thing that keeps them busy.:cheeky:

khalaqa (خلق) with the old meaning of "to measure" or "to meter" (often referring to leather or maybe fabric), nowadays it usually means "to create" or "to bring something into being"
farā (فرى؟) (presumably, I only found it in conjugated forms and haven't looked for the original verb yet) with the meaning of "to cut"
Very interesting. There really might be a slight connection.

Not to drive things off-topic, but how is a civilization that is in a state of severe decay able to forge and maintain fine armor and weapons? I did not question this at the time, but I didn't notice until now how intricate those designs are. It would appear to have been more appropriate to give them make-shift protection and rags, but I guess that would have made them seem too similar to the Pagans.
They weren't that extraordinarily fine, IMHO. Their katana-sabre-hybrid-like swords looked pretty used...
While the Kurshies have lost nearly all of their ancient knowledge, literacy and high culture, they seem to have preserved most of the handicraft skills needed for everyday survival : Sewing clothes (from sea weed or fungus ? :cheeky:), blacksmithing, preparing food, making improvised ceramics, watching after their future offspring (the eggs in the arena)... They apparently use a lot of the remaining leftovers from the Citadel as well (those amphoras can be used for supply storage, especially food). The only thing I missed in the Citadel, were camp-like sites, old chambers rebuilt for storing dried fish, etc. It would have looked even more convincing : "Two clicks for the folly of pride ! Look around you, pink headsick man ! This is all that survived our downfall, the apocalypse from ages ago... We lived in great halls, and now we're a bunch of hobos !!!" :cheeky: :laff: :laff: ;)

If there is any at all we're rather speaking about parallel ideas/concepts. Or does anyone know about the devs' education?

It's probably just a coincidence, IMHO.
Ooo, now this felt pretty eerie... That early concept art always left me pondering about the bizzare face in the background. An unused idea for a humanoid species, that the devs eventually abandoned ?
I doubt it has anything to do with Abe or the Kurshoks. It looks very similiar to the "Bug Demon" from another concept sketch :

It's quite possible it got replaced by the more natural looking Bugbeast (a.k.a. "annoying oversized praying mantis from TDP/TG" :) ).

IIRC, (haven't really played in a long time) a similarly shaped face appears in some textures in Sword. Definitely an important piece of lost Thief lore.
