Disco maven Donna Summer went to polyester heaven today, at the age of, 63. You can find your own link.
This news saddens me quite a bit, partly because I had some definite Jungle Fever for her when I was younger, and tremendously because it reminds me of how old and useless I'm becoming.
... you know you're getting old when your youth spank-bank material starts dying off.

I was one of the black concert T wearing squint eyed smoke haloed crowd. We made noise about disco being the suck. We groaned when we had to buy our girlfriends the Saterday Night Fever album. If only they could understand the genius of Floyd or Queen. But we danced to it with them. We may have even roller discoed a time or two. Like it or not it became part of the soundtrack of youth. It was on the radio during the first breathless fumblings in back seats. It was fun to bump to though seeing a buddy at a nearby table when you came off the floor meant a bit of shamed shoulder shrugging. Last Dance played a lot of last dances.
RIP days of Summer.

I think this clip is as old as me, but it's a good example. I don't believe I've actually watched concert footage of her - to me she was always just one of those people who turned up in disco retrospectives.
