That's my point exactly. They're ports, not remakes.

but then I discovered they weren't re-releasing the first MGS.
ePSXe + 360 controller. If you want to get a legit copy of course. Lately I've been turning my PS1/2 discs into ISOs and playing them on emulators. They look way better that way with the added AA and texture smoothing than on an HDTV.

Not to mention MGS is sold on PSN and if you're determined, you can find a copy of Twin Snakes for Gamecube.

Yes, but who'd be determined enough to find a Gamecube to go along with?
Not me, no sirree.

Would it work with the Wii (non family edition)? I've not tried any gamecube games with mine but I thought it was supposed to be compatible with them.

Yes, you can play Gamecube games on the Wii. And you should! Twin Snakes is excellent. I only wish it was available for the PS3, then I could play all the modern Metal Gear games in HD. MGS1 is great, instant classic. MGS2 is wonderful, introduces some great characters (Vamp anyone???). Also it comes with tons of content, "Snake Tales", VR Missions, and special gameplay modes. The HD upgrade really makes it shine. However, MGS3 looks even better than MGS2 (Again, the HD update), and is easily the best game of the series. Great characters in this one as well however it seems lighter on the quirkiness, but not much content beyond the campaign I believe. However, the campaign is worth playing again. I'm playing on "Extreme", however I might try "European Extreme" (apparently Europe is more hardcore than Murika) which ends the game if you are SEEN. Plus I want to try and go non-lethal, collect all the boss camo. Oh, and I ended The End prematurely... if you know how. It just made sense to try and it worked... so I'll have to wait till second play through to go toe to toe with him in his element. MGS4 is also a lot of fun, ties up a lot of loose ends (while just making some shit worse), and if you're a fan of the MGS lore, it's really a fan service. The last scene... fist fight... mutual nano-injection. Yeah, sounds terribly gay, and probably is, but man, I loved it. Also, watching Raiden go from whiney melodramatic pussy to whiney melodramatic agent with a dark past, to fucking badass cyborg ninja motherfucker is awesome. "It is my turn to protect you... Snake." And "Will you be the one to finally finish me?" I love how Raidens blood is now white since it's synthetic and Vamp licks it off his knife so he has white liquid in his mouth and as Snake is observing he makes a disgusted gesture. I love the homoerotic undertones played with Vamp. Then there's MGO, which is fucking wonderful. It has an unlock system that rivals the other big name shooters, however it takes place in the MGS universe with MGS quirks and tropes. Also, it has a perks system as well so you can specialize in certain things... for example you can literally be a bad ass CQC monster who disarms/destroys anyone who gets too close. I loved it, anyway, and the ranking system is dynamic, meaning you can lose rank if you start sucking/haven't played in a while. I dont know why other games dont use a system like this...
Oh, and then theres Peace Walker that came with the HD Collection. I booted it just to see what it looked like and it looks exactly like MGS2 and 3, so that's pretty cool. I also heard that its very stealth oriented, has some fun/quirky missions, and it has an MP mode of its own. So... yeah, MGS overload.
TL;DR- I'm a huge MGS fan/I wish the HD MGS1 was available on PS3, then I would have THEM ALL.

How do people not know this? Baffling.
As regards Revengence - someone explain to me how this is related to Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Just put numbers on things ffs.

I didn't know it until I popped open a panel on the side of my Wii. :o
