Anybody remember him from Thief Gold? Songs of the Caverns?! I was playing it recently, I remembered how hearing his voice at first in that room with the arrows scared me, and then when I first encountered him, assuming he was hostile.
Anyway, after getting used to him, I realised he's such a lovable, although, mental, oaf. I was looking through the sound files and found out he (obviously) had a death soundfile. I could never do it, I don't have the heart to...HE'S A REAL PERSON, TOO, YOU KNOW!? Did anybody actually kill him when playing through? How did you feel when you done it?! Is there a reason? Beneficial to the gameplay?
Just curious. :D

"Whoops! Ya killed Raoul?" If you ever do it, don't tell anyone. :o
Well, I'm glad you realized he's a good guy. He's an accomplice, providing lots of clues. He was the original phantom of the opera, but Garrett becomes the real phantom and gives Raoul his sweetest revenge against Lady Valerius. Too bad he's mental, or he may have had the chance to reclaim ownership of the opera house again.
EDIT: From what I can tell, since he gives you a map and key after you listen to him long enough, interrupting him just makes things more difficult (mostly dependent on the player), but does not break the game. There doesn't seem to be any condition applied to his death or unconsciousness, and the new objectives are given when climbing the rope.

I remember seeing him and going *WTF!* I got a bit closer and just started laughing my ass off. He is such a whack job, he didn't scare me one bit. He's great, didn't Stephen do his voice too?

He sure did.

I heard somewhere so, but if not, is a very talented guy, I love the way he says, specially when using rimes, "you need a map, Raoul has a map; you need a key, you can get that too from me..." :joke:
He's the reason that Songs of the Caverns is my favourite OM, giving a lot of depth to the universe of the game, like other characters, very thrilling too... damn I love Thief :cheeky:

It must've been great fun. I was reminded of Mike Chrzanowski's post:

Steve Russell kicks ass, I got all excited the day that he came into the studio to record for Thief GOLD. I remember the time we all heard Raoul for the first time, we all fell on the floor laughing because it was so damned perfect. To this day, me and my brother run around the house singing, "My Lady Valarius is so so sad....."
And here in the Gold credits:

I just started the level yesterday. Meeting the fellow was a fun surprise. :D
"I see you there, little fish... Come closer... Oh my ! You are rather a big fish, I see..."
Or something like that... LOLZ ! :laff:
Is it just me, or does the poor homeless guy really have bats in the bellfry ? :cheeky: :joke: Garrett made a remark about "The curtains went down for him long ago ..." Maybe he was a former opera singer and became homeless, once his employers or the audience lost interest in his performances... :p Who knows... With cheesy operas like the one about the Hammer novice and his Pagan lover, I'm not even surprised... :p

If you listen to everything he says, you find out he was the owner of the opera house, and Lady Valerius took it from him, and now he wants revenge. He's been sneaking around and stealing food, and knows about how she got ahold of the Water Talisman when her guardsmen came down to exterminate the spiders infesting the opera house.:D

Oh, the poor soul... :( I suspected it...
I already managed to get to the secret room with the WT locked inside... the problem is... I can't open it... still haven't found the key and the lockpicks were no use. Anyway, the Opera House is going to be one of my favourite levels from TDP/TG, I'm sure of it already. ;)
