It's an [spoiler]easter egg....you need to find 4 or is it 5 keys scattered about the map. I only solved it...oh about a year ago...not sure anybody else ever did...but you can find it in game without resorting to dromed.[/spoiler]

I found it (not on my own. Only after reading some clues about the keys on the forum) but I read the answer before I recognized where the screenie was from so didn't think it was fair to answer.

I seem to remember stacking crates to climb over a gate in that mission back in the day, and ending up in a weird place where the walls and floors were not solid and I fell down into the void.
