Don't forget the archer with the FIREARROWS in unwanted guest. Scared the bejesus out of me the first time I met it (Him/Her?)

Guards with BONFIRE CARTS ! :erm: :ebil: :o  :nono:
Yeeeah. You'll require a defunct defactor mechanist/hammerite group turned darkarts or necromancy, flinging zombie black plague like corpses creating necessary turmoil against a rival party. Against an individual like garrett, then could such a thing be ideal. Exciting, yet amusingly inept & unprofessional for a thief, to have bonfire catapults be flung at him.
Breakable blackjack proof helmets.. striking fear into a fleeing guard. priceless.

A lot of interesting ideas.
Regarding firearms if you introduced them like they were in the 15'th century they would be single shot matchlock weapons only and be extremely inaccurate.
Nothing more advanced then that though. Matchlocks would tend to make the guards more noticeable also as the lit match would show up in darkness really well.
Then just make them discard it or put a bayonet on the end but I don't think they started doing that until the 16'th century but I could be wrong.
Gunpowder has been used in many FM's at least so its not completely inconceivable that they would have them.
I would love to see guards alerting other guards as long as it wasn't an instant every guard in the place knows even all the way over on the other side of the map(Unless the alarm could reasonably do that).
Another thing would be a real guard would not go back to a relaxed state after an alert unless he was convinced the intruder had been taken care of.
So if a guard sees proof that there is in fact an intruder he should stay alerted.
If on the other hand he just heard a noise he could ignore it and go back to not being alerted.
"I was imagining it nothing there after all"
Groups splitting an area up and searching together would be cool also.
Just some ideas.

.
For Thief 4, I was thinking about some guards using a steam-punkish, primative radio system.
Sliptip was making something similar for his abandoned (?) Thief 2 FM - 'The 2nd Project'.

I believe it was called First Project. Not entirely abandoned from what I hear, although he's not working on it currently.
