The bulk of today's gamers are in the range of 13-20, in this forum the age goes up but that's HERE only. See all the kiddies playing wow and need for speed? These are the ones that are buying the most games. If you don't believe me you can do some research, this is off topic imo.
Did you read through the two links posted above? They make it pretty clear gamers are not 13 - 20. It would be interesting though to know the average age of buyers of TDS. Maybe it would prove a point you're trying to make, but so far it has not come true.

I had missed those, but yes it seems that a simple google search gives you the average age of gamers is 33. Now out of those, remove the people still playing Heroes, Starcraft, Civilization etc. and factor in the ones that buy games like Assassin's Creed, GTA, Max Payne, Splinter Cell etc. and suddenly the average age drops a lot. I can't prove this with statistics now, but i have been on gaming forums long enough to see that the majority are immature. So then, call me biased and a whiner and whatever, but you know that my words have some merit. If you don't beleive me, go to the Eidos forums and read for yourselves.
For example - allowing Garrett to swim again in Thief 4 is bad because it makes the game more complicated.

I don't think this is what most people here want. What we want is for EM to understand what it was about Thief 1 and 2 that made them so incredible and incorporate those things into T4. New graphics? Absolutely! New AI. Of course. New story? Most definitely! New weapons? Sure, why not. An innovative but successful new approach to the game? Bring it on!
But give us a story that fits in the Thief universe. Give us Garrett. Give us the freedom to explore each mission in any way we want to. Give us the freedom to go above and beyond what the devs intended. Give us a control set that makes sense and is customizable. Give us the mystery, intelligence and cleverness that was so prevelant in T1 and 2. Give us total immersion. Let the outcome of the game be based on the player's skills, not some arbitrary decisions made by the devs.
(...)
You're right to the point Tannar - very well written!

Old or new taffer, it does not matter. They will do what they will do, they will develop what they will develop.
I like your proactive attitude ;) But You re unfortunately right. Anyway "its all about money" - if eidos decide the money is average 14 yr old gta-fanboy we're screwed :( Salt the money! and rape our wallets

1. The old taffers that started with the TDP demo back in 1999, that played the first two games and loved them and were subsequently dissapointed with TDS's absurdities, such as auto aiming knockouts, loot glint, no rope arrows, no swimming, small levels, loading screens...
2. The new taffers that first encountered the Thief series with TDS, and then played the first two games and didn't like them because of the graphics, or because they were too hard or what not.
Too right Myth! :thumb:
(A note: Don't let my join date on these forums fool you, I've been a die-hard Thief fan since 1998 with DP. I was originally called 'thiefobsessedgirl' but have just recently made a new account on these forums, because I couldn't remember my old password OR the email address)Back on subject.
There's nothing wrong with new Thief fans, even new taffers are taffers nonetheless.
BUT.
They did not experience DP or MA when they were in their PRIME
Therefore, they judge DP and MA with their minds full of experience with modern FPS's and RPG's, with their awesome graphics and animation.
These new taffers generally don't like DP and MA. The very games that MADE their beloved Deadly Shadows.
They don't have the FULL thiefy experience we 'old taffers' posess.
And yet, they DARE to come on the Thi4f forums and put forward their wants for the new game of the franchise we 'old taffers' love insanely.
"No rope arrows, no uber cool DP/MA style briefings, no burricks, we want RPG thief, we want Garrett fully-armoured, we want cool power-crossbow...."Imposters!
Leave the ideas for Thi4f to the REAL experts ;)
*pushes a New Taffer gently aside. "I'll take it from here my friend."*:sly:

I wonder. Is it the newtaffers or the oldtaffers who want to put the little girl in T4 as the main character? If it's the newtaffers, it's weird that they so eagerly want to get rid of Garrett who they've known for such a short time. Wouldn't they want to see him more? Or was TDS so terrible to even them that they got a bad image of Garrett too?

As I said before we do not all think the same.:bored:
EM will make the game whatever how they want just speculation now. They have said they have listened to the fans,so just see.
I am no less a fan because I played the out of sequence. TDS I did love the story Graphics apart, loved the first two the most, after playing could see why. The missions cites and puzzles, ambiance are by far the best.
Fans are fans. After all the fan missions is obvious what is wanted based on the games. These Authors could make the new game on that basis.
@Jilly the Taffer. You said you played them from the start but say on the age forum you are 17. How could you, anymore than me have a concept of the game at that age. :p
I had no idea of the game when I first played. Never looked back old Taffer or new still have a great love of the game.
Telling "New Taffers/ TDS players" to go away and leave it to the experts.
Who are the experts then?
We do not all think or want the same I certainly do not want ultra modern or guns please no way. I think that is not a majority. I am a true Thief fan,who never have played anything much else since personally. ;)

I never said I finished DP the year it came out :p
I got to the Bonehoard, got lost, encountered zombies and burricks, cried, and never returned to the game until a year or two later.
Indeed, I remember I had no concept of the game, I ran and killed.
When I returned to Dark Project, I learnt to sneak and blackjack. :D

@Gillie- I definitely agree that we shouldn't tell the newbies to taff off just because they don't agree with us, it's normal to have varying opinions on stuff (even among those who have been playing since day one). But still, don't judge people just on their age, that's every bit as bad as penalizing someone for playing DS first. I am 18 and didn't even find out about Thief 'til years after it came out, but I finally found out and, after playing it for the second time (the first time I blundered through slaughtering just about everyone and really having an awful time), I, like so many, fell in love with the incredible masterpiece that is The Dark Project and have been hooked ever since.
