So this evening I decided to have a look at The Night Falcon. After installing it with DarkLoader, I fired it up. The title screen came up ok, the intro video played, and the border around the objectives appeared with the objectives area itself completely blank, and then CTD. I've played quite a few missions already and this is the first one to give me trouble. Has anyone had a problem like this?

intro vid in that packet? check codecs or just delete the movies from movies folder.
back in the day i changed the *.ax file in the main directory to *.ax_ so that thief would not try to play and movies (click ignore when starting T2 via darkloader after changing the extention)

Problem is, it happens after the video plays, or if I hit a key to skip over the video. I tried your suggestion about changing the *.ax file but the video still played.

GayleSaver's was already installed, so it wasn't that. I'm currently running Thief 2 v1.21 from the latest Tafferpatcher 2.0.12. Do I have to downgrade to v1.18 in order to play this FM?

So this is quite weird. I ran tafferpatcher again to see if I could downgrade to 1.18 and I removed everything else. Thief 2 gave me an error that the resolution wouldn't work. I reinstalled 1.21 but left everything else unchecked. Thief 2 Original started up, but the font on all the buttons was small. I started a new game and got the same CTD. So I ran tafferpatcher again, this time adding the scripts, resource fixes and visual enhancements. Still the font was small and the game crashed. I ran tafferpatcher again, this time adding dromed, and the game started working correctly. So it appears to be a bug in tafferpatcher v2.12 beta.

I don't think it's TP. It fired up OK on my machine, played the video and loaded the first mission.
Missions 3 and 5 use script.osm, which is not included in the zip (Mission authors usually would not include scripts in the past due to issues I've long since forgotten.)
Have you tried using FMSel instead of DarkLoader?

It wasn't The Night Falcon that was crashing in my last example, but vanilla Thief 2. Basically, when I use TP to remove Dromed, this error happens when any mission is started up. The menu text is using a much smaller font and upon reaching the objectives screen, I see just the metallic border that normally surrounds the objectives, and a second later CTD. When I use TP to reinstall Dromed, the game plays fine. My guess is that TP is missing something when it uninstalls Dromed.
FMSel? I'll have to look for that. I know I've seen the name before when I installed Sneaky upgrade for Thief 3.

No need to go searching for FMSel.
It is part of NewDark and TafferPatcher should have installed it already for you.

No, you can play the campaign with the current version Thief 2 v.1.21 and TP v.2.12 beta. Personally I prefer originally as much as possible, sorry for conclusion. Just copy the content of your CD's or DVD in a new directory, run TP and make a complete installation with all options on. Start Thief-2 Fan-Mission Selector (FMsel) and select yoür FM directory.
