Sir Freddy M : Probably too late but what about your rope? Your objective is to meet Jack

I am super frustrated. I can't get
Gwen past that guard patrolling the hall. I am ready to quit this mission. Even when I am in the shadows the guard can tell I'm there. I also can't get Gwen to stop where she won't be seen. There has got to be a better way. Even with the light gem totally dark he can still tell I'm there.
mxleader : Sorry this is being such a pain. The easiest way on Hard (and also possible on Expert and Director's Cut but has other issues) is to carry her as far as possible and wake her at the far end. So if you have an earlier save before she awoke you might want to go back to that. However assuming not, here are some tips for proceeding...
Gwendoline will always try to proceed to the point you signal with the glove. So, if you first get her to the side gate just before the drainpipe, then 'unfrob' the glove (that is, frob the glove again and it moves back to the normal inventory position) she will stay there while you move ahead to scout. Reach the first or second partition between the windows and crouch close in so you are in deep shadow. Inch forward as far as you can but still in shadow. Wait till the guard has walked north past you about a window or two and then frob the glove to signal Gwen. Immediately you can unfrob the glove. Now wait. She should approach you while the guard is at the far end out of earshot and eyesight. When she reaches you she should crouch behind you. Wait for the guard to come back and up again and proceed in this way. With practice it is possible to go the whole way with only a single stop in the middle on Hard. Of course, you might like to quick save here and there.
[EDIT]
Note that you can leave Gwen anywhere and proceed, get loot, do what you like, then signal her to come to where you are. Hide the signal glove and she will reach that point and stay there. You do not need to wait for her to reach there once you have signalled her. Just make sure she is in a safe place!
No, it's not too late. I'm still in the tower, I've been visiting the skeleton but have not seen this Jack.

Sir Freddy M : Then re-read the arrow message? What to do? What to do? why not rope down to the garden to save you going down the ladders?

Guess I am the only one who couldn't find the right area in the laundry room. :o
Have finished all other objectives, even in the attic now. But, first objective has not checked off: to know all duties. And, the one about leaving the little book.
First, I tried just dropping the book on the pile of laundry in the kitchen. It was lost and not to be retrieved, so good thing Garrett made a copy! Now, I have put it on the shelf outside the window of the laundry. Doesn't work.
Have never made so many different saved games with a thief mission. What a workout this has been!

JoanieS : You've done pretty good to get this far but you will kick yourself if you go right back to the very start point in your nightwatchman's hut! The laundry chute is in the sick room on the wall

Thanks! Kick myself is right! After searching yesterday and today, went back in after posting and there it was. Why do we all do this? Find the long sought after answer after giving up and posting? Looking forward to next mission!:thumb:

Well, I could have sworn the objective DID check off when I got to the top of the tower, but it's certainly not checked off now. Fidcal, I'll try your suggestion when I get home tonight. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll restart the mission. Not the happiest solution, but at least I'll know what to do and where everything is.:(
