antialias: The east gatehouse is marked on the map. To get there, go north from the garden past the gate and the cowering guard into the halls.
The trick here is to get Gwendoline past the guard inside without him seeing either of you.
Keep on north past the dragon statues then turn right (E) through the double doors with a wood bar across them. The gatehouse is in the NE corner of this yard.

clearing : I understand. Yes, that way is completely correct. You can do either. But it is more difficult to do that on Expert and Director's Cut!
gorice : The crossed out objectives : Point taken but these are so you won't forget something important. These four missions are one long night...
antialias : Sorry about this frustration.
Check the map and you will see a more direct route north from the garden through the garden gate straight along to the east gate. On Hard you can carry Gwen most of the way if you prefer. Or if you like stealth then lead her.
extra hint to open the garden gate :
search around the garden for the garden gate key if you do not have it.
Mac the Knave : Hope you keep going, some parts are tough but there is quite a bit of varied gameplay where you can have fun. :thumb:

ffox & Fidcal:
Thanks. As dumb as it sounds I didn't realize that the garden gate could be opened.

Fidcal: Yeah, I understand that now. It just wasn't obvious, and it stressed me out a little that I'd inadvertently blown my chances of achieving those objectives. I see what you're doing. And yes, it does look as if it IS going to be a long night for me and Garrett. :cheeky:
antialias: I got a bit stuffed by not having a compass, hence not being able to easily work out where the East gatehouse actually was. It's clear enough on the map, though, to be fair.
If you haven't got a compass, you can pick one up early in the mission (thanks, ffox!), it's
in the pantry
As for the garden gate, you probably didn't find Jack's OTHER, other note, which is
tucked behind the statue in the garden
gorice and everyone : About My Notes - On Hard and Expert don't forget to read My Notes in your inventory in each mission not just this one. The compass is mentioned there and a hint as to its whereabouts. ie, attic over kitchen stores and storeman's compass. These Notes are added to now and again as you go along so read them at the start of each mission and if they pop up again later it means something is added. :thumb:

Ah, I see what you mean. My Notes get updated in-mission. Neat.
That's very clever, and helpful, but not at all obvious. I don't recall "My Notes" leaping into my hand at any point within the mission to remind me to check them.

You probably missed this bit from the intro briefing:
"On the easier levels, Garrett makes notes to clarify and reinforce your understanding of the situation. You might prefer to only read them if you get stuck. On Director's Cut level you are expected to make these deductions yourself."

Well I looked at the map and saw where the east gatehouse was supposed to be, but since I couldn't find any way to get Gwen there I figured I had made a mistake. I thought the only way to get Gwen there was to go back up the outside of the tower, down the inside of the tower, across the courtyard, past the kitchen, past the elite guard, through the low passageway, through the hallway with the pacing guard, and THEN to the hallway with the gargoyle statues, which seemed so impossibly hard I thought maybe I'd gotten the whole thing mixed up. It wasn't until Fidcal mentioned the garden gate key that I realized I could just take her down the outer corridor with the cowering guard. I DID find the compass, but I missed the OTHER other note.

LOL! Would I ever possibly conceive of anything so fiendishly difficult? :ebil:

Well Fidcal, I am incredibly stubborn ... I need to get past this first mission and hope I can move on and get into the flow better.
It's late, and I hope someone is out there who can answer my questions:
1.) Where EXACTLY is the key to the display room?
2.) How on earth do I get the button into the fountain? I have gotten it on there a couple of times, but it isn't perfect and I still lose health.
3.) Once I'm in the attic, what am I supposed to be doing. I have gotten up there, saw the door, have no key and don't really understand what is going on.
I hate to be so dumn, but I gotta get some help, even if I get exact answers.
P.S. I'm beginning to understand how Cringe feels!
