A great mission sadly spoilt by the ridiculously difficult hatch control.
Trying to frob buttons as you fly past is more Tomb Raider than Thief.
I gave up on mission 3 after trying for half an hour.
Pity, I enjoyed the rest of it.:(

You don´t need to frob that button as you fly past it. There is a rope arrow for this situation. In fact, a large part of the gameplay after you get flushed out from the mansion is focused on getting that rope arrow.

Yes, sorry you had a hard time of it frobbin hood. As I recall on the easier levels (which is recommended, even urged in the readme) it is an objective I think to get the rope or at least to go where you get it. I hope you persevere as you've missed half of Mission 3 I think. :thumb:
Also, to save you further frustration, on some levels you also have to 'enable' that lever else it won't frob at all. I think there is a notice clue there somewhere. Sorry I'm a bit hazy after a couple of years.

I am playing this mission on Director's Cut. I've made it down the ramp shown in ffox's picture above, climbed onto the gold pipe and gone down the hatch. After a wild ride I am stuck up against a grate with another hatch above me. I've opened that hatch but I absolutely cannot climb up into that room. I seem to be stuck, maybe held by the fast water current. Not sure. I just know that nothing I've tried has succeeded. I can't mantle, jump, climb or in any other way get up through that hatch. It's kind of like being stuck on terrain but I'm not. I can swim back down into the pipe and a little bit up the pipe, away from the grating and against the current. I can't go far because the current is too strong but clearly I'm not stuck on terrain. So, is there some trick to this or am I just trying to go in the wrong direction?

With your head in the air, jiggle about and try again. There are positions (imperceptibly different from others) where you can mantle out to the East or South.
Mark you, that is on Expert. The testers couldn't beat Director's Cut!
