Taffer Jim :
Get the key and the note from Gwen's table, head into the household via the door in the north corridor. Climb over the railings in the left corridor.
tip: stand back half a pace and mantle.

did that, but now I can't get into the
room with the broken window, nor can I flip the red lever under the drain pipe.
tafferjim :
Mantle on to the control panel on the west side of the pool. Climb straight up the join in the two sloping walls as high as you can. Up there is a ledge to your left you have to jump to. Use some flares if the light is not working.
Usually I'm quite good at roping and usually I enjoy it. However, I just don't know what to do about that lever at this point and so I'm skipping to the end of the level and going to #4.
There's a serious frobbing issue, and I don't know why. I jumped down to the pipe and had a quick save there. Repeatedly I shot the arrow in what should have been the perfect place and I climbed down to where the lever was right in front of me. I mean, just behind my computer screen kind of close. It never lit up, despite doing so earlier from other angles.
Obviously, I should have made a save the time I did get through the hatch, but then I thought I had done something wrong when I didn't see a way out.
WAIT WAIT ! Don't lose your gamesave! It just sounds like you've not been reading the readables. You should have activated the lever up in the control room or it does not work. Check one of the control panels.

Ah, never mind. What confused me was that the first time I made it through the whirlpool, I missed the valve behind the ladder and got confused that I had done something wrong up top.
But I promise that if you drop down to the top of the pipe, you'll have excellent access to the lever!

I have tried several times to
mantle/climb/hop/skip/jump to the control room, I have managed to get to the ledge but can get no further. What part should I try mantling up to? Picture pointing it out or something.
If anyone has a saved game right past that point would be appreciated. Out of all the missions I have played this one is getting to the point I don't want to play any more.

Taffer Jim :
On the ledge you should try running and jumping to one or other of the different ledges you can see above you. The ledges curve round. I find the best places are on the inside left or inside right. Take a run of a step or two then jump at the last second and keep holding the jump key so you mantle up. Keep holding the key until you are right up and can get in the window.
I've hit a dead end.
There is a control unit with an "OPEN/SHUT" switch on the side and what appears to be a gold conduit running between it, and a non-frobbable door. However, when I flip the switch, the door remains shut. Nor can I find anything else that changes. Am I missing something obvious again?
The magic of posting, I found it less than a minute later. In case anyone else is stumped the same way:
It opened the gate blocking the underwater tunnel.
