John9818a :
Sorry but I never imagined that anyone would spend more than 10 seconds trying to run the wrong way along a conveyor belt. When I set it up I set the speed as fast as a run so it was (I thought) impossible to move along. I never made any progress that I could detect. Try the hatch in the water pipe again and the current should carry you along. Very occasionally I have got temporarily stuck in the middle but just a jump or turn a couple times set me free in the current again. But I found that instinctive anyway.
Fidcal,
I guess John tried the pipe from the wrong side, just like he did with the conveyor belt.
John,
there is another (somewhat hidden) walkway behind one of the generators near the control room you had to climb up from the big whirlpool. This leads to the right entrance to the pipe.

SinisterShadow : Oh I see what you mean! Duh! I misunderstood. When John said his alternative didn't work I thought he gave up on the conveyor half way and came back and tried the normal hatch and got stuck somehow.

Well I made it through and am now on part 4. I was determined in the tunnel. I was able to move along by running forward and constantly jumping. :o I went back and made my way down the drain in the whirlpool. :)
btw in the conveyor belt tunnel when I went back in the correct way, I banged my head on one of the lights. :eww:

Ah! Running and jumping! That's how it's done. The intrepid inventiveness of Thief players never ceases to amaze me. Yes, the trip back can be 'hurtful' and that is why the speed was not twice or three times what it was. I used to get killed! You probably also noticed that it slows down at both ends so you don't get thrown at the opposite wall. Splat!

Okay, I managed to get most of this done without peeking at this thread.
(I needed a nudge to find the lever under the bridge but that has been it.)
Except for the secrets!
I found the map, but not either of the other two before reaching the end.
Now, as far as I can tell, there are two "points of no return": The living room near the start; and the whirlpool under the bridge.
If that is correct, then I cannot get back to search areas before those two points. (Or, tell me how to get back to those areas if that is possible...)
So before I go loading old saves, just tell me, besides the secret I found, are either of the remaining two prior to the living room or prior to the whirlpool?
Thanks!
Martek

One of them is prior to the whirlpool.

My question: Anyone found all 3 secrets? I'm missing one and 70 loot.
Can't remember number 1 but 2 was
some coins on a horizontal pipe near the vortex pool room I have now found two of the three (
both of them prior to the whirlpool) and am 20 short of loot. (So that means if your two are also from the same
side of the whirlpool then you may have some other loot to find - because it was said that
two secrets were before the whirlpool.
I've seen two different possible hints to the third: 1) The "
ohh sorry not this pipe? okay the other pipe" note (paraphrasing) and; 2) The "
wait until the bog dries out - your gold will still be there" note (again, paraphrasing). If it's #2 by chance, I hope that doesn't mean I have to
blind frob the muck to find it!
Cheers,
Martek

Martek : No, that 'drying out' thing refers to some other loot in the wet caves. Your No.1 clue is the one you want - on another pipe. Specifically from someone called 'F' saying the pipe near me Hint: it's awkward to see. Well, this is Nightwatch!:joke:

Got it!
Boy, I tell ya, I looked there probably 10 times and didn't see it. Had to pull out the fine-tooth comb to find it! :weird:
Ohh, and that "other" loot (referred to by the "drying out" clue) turned out to be that chest which I had found some time ago.
Thanks for the tips. :thumb:
Ohh, and for some reason I expected to find something to do relating to the prisoner that was hidden down that tunnel, but as far as I can tell there isn't anything.
One last comment: You can actually blackjack almost all the humans/humanoid NPC's despite it being forbidden at the beginning. That may be obvious to many, but wasn't to me - so I mention in case someone else doesn't know but wishes they could. I assume that restriction is lifted after the water jouneys start.
Cheers,
Martek
