I should think pretty much everyone found it. It's an objective you have to complete, at least on Hard and Expert, but I think on Normal too, isn't it??

Actually. The room the stick with the face was in was unopenable. I got it open by accidently knocking twice on the door and a guy came running out, and I jacked him in the doorway so the door remained open. But when the door was locked, when I went over to it, it didn't light up or anything. I haven't played the mission on Hard and Expert yet so I don't know if the stick with the face is any part of the mission. The guy that made the map said the following when I asked him about it:
"It's what you'd see if you were able to
look at the player character. It's what the engine uses as a guide for physics
sizes 'n' stuff. It's garrett."
so I really don't know. Have you found the stick with the painted face Nightwalker?

I'm quite serious that getting the "rare item" is an objective you get after you have been into the Treasury. Did you get into it yet? I don't play on Normal very often, so it's possible that it's not required on that difficulty but you enter that guy's room exactly the way you said on this difficulty. Bang on the door until he comes out and you can get in.
On Hard and Expert, you go into a room down the hall where you can get out onto a balcony (only on these two difficulties), walk along a ledge to the balcony of the locked room and get in that way. Conor (SilentSleep) was telling you where he got the item from and it doesn't have any practical use after you get it, like the ancient keys do, but you do need to get it, at least of the two harder difficulties, for sure.

Thanks for clearing that up for me :)

I' ve also seen that object in the credits of Thief 1, after I found it in the FM "the Order of the Vine"

I think I have been in every room twice but there are things I have not found yet.
The gold key in the master bedroom (found a book in the bookcase, but it will not come out)
The brown key--I assume is in the sewer. I swam around but didn't see it
The special item in a guest's room--I have looked in both areas but did not find it.
I know there are other items I need to find also. This mission is a lot harder than LEE or the Vigil--so many items to find and so many rooms.:p Where is all the loot--I haven't found diddly.
My feet are tired.:p

Poor Daisy! Take a break and soak your feet. It's a big mansion, for sure. You neglected to mention which difficulty you are playing on and in this mission, the location of the bronze key varies in each one.
The gold key, however, is always in the same place:
The book you found that lit up but wouldn't come out in the Master's bedroom opened a safe on the far wall. The gold key is in there.
As for the "special item", how you get into that room also changes. On the easiest setting, you need to
find the locked bedroom upstairs with a door you can't pick open. Bang on the door and stand very close to it. The fellow inside gets all upset and runs out. When he opens the door, you can get in.
On Hard and Expert,
There is a bedroom upstairs just up the hall from the locked one that you can't pick open. In that bedroom, there is a door to a balcony. Go out on the balcony, crouch and creep under the rail onto the ledge. Follow it to the next balcony and that will get you into the room with the "special object".
The bronze key on Easy-
the bronze key is in Giblen's room, with the Silver key.
on Hard -
it's in the garden, beside the cat faced fountain.
On Expert -
it's in the sewers under the toilets. You have to find a round room with an underwater hole in the wall. Swim up that tunnel and you'll get to a room with a boarded up window. The key is on the shelf in there.
Whew! Now I'm tired, except it's my fingers not my feet! :D

Oops!! I thought I had a bug--should have looked at the safe again. :o Thanks, Nightwalker. Sorry I didn't say I was playing on expert. I will remember next time--I hope. I am still not sure which guest room it is--I don't remember one that wouldn't open. It must be in the east wing though. That gives me something to work on--I am off for another swim--ughh:eww:
naarmo on 1/4/2002 at 10:39
I think its either in the east or the west wing, its at the very end of a hall! I found it by accident!
This is my favorite mission! But I don't remember anything! lol
Lake on 1/4/2002 at 16:34
Yes, the east wing which has the guards' rooms.
