Picked this up in the ongoing (
https://www.humblebundle.com/) Humble Indie Bundle with Android 6, and since I've never played the game it was based on (edutainment-title Oregon Trail) I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleased by what I found however, it's a zombie-apocalypse version of FTL! Ok, it's not as good, or deep, as FTL. And after a few playthroughs you've probably worked out how the game's systems work well enough that you'll be able to finish it even on harder difficulties without breaking a sweat. But for the first 5-7 hours with the game it's still a blast, and since it's so cheap in the Bundle right now I defenitely recommend that fans of FTL pick it up. I've finished the game on PC and iPad now, as well as a couple of runs on an Android smartphone. It runs and plays pretty much similarly on all the systems, but I found it most enjoyable when played on a tablet, perferably with a stylus so you can keep your hands out of the way as much as possible when you're trying to shoot zombies.
For my PC playthrough, I loaded up the ol' stationwagon with a few familiar names from TTLG-land. (

it's a zombie-apocalypse version of FTL!
It's pretty much exactly like the Apple ][ version of Oregon Trail with zombies.

What's amazing is how true-to-life those character moments are.

I hope to hell that Ducky isn't sitting on anyone's food.

How do you figure this is
anything like FTL?
june gloom on 27/6/2013 at 22:00
It really isn't, no.

I dunno, you have a crew that you have to keep alive, a transport, and you go from area to area encountering stuff in each area? Sounds a lot like FTL, or at least the kinda game that FTL is based on. Hell, I remember playing a text game back in the days of BASIC that was exactly FTL but text(obvously), something I wrote from from an old Amstrad magazine.
Its also 4.99 on steam, seeing as I've put more than 100 hours into FTL went and grabbed it! Thanks for the recommendation henke.
Jason Moyer on 28/6/2013 at 01:29
So what you're saying is that FTL is Oregon Trail in space, then?
PigLick on 28/6/2013 at 01:41
I havent played Oregon Trail, but strip backed to its base elements it does seem rather similar, and also if Henke says something is so, its good enough for me!

We really do have to find some better way of explaining the variety of roguelike element based games without lumping them all together.
But anyway; hilarious! Keep going
