Might keep coders out. Somewhat stymies the open-source nature of the entire project, imo.

It's not actually an open-source project at this time, though.

Have they even got the damn thing to compile yet? I MEAN GOOD GOD! IT'S BEEN LIKE TWO MONTHS NOW!
Nameless Voice on 8/2/2011 at 00:23
Yes.

Yeah, I know. I just felt like being a rabble rouser for a second.

Naw. If they want in, they just gotta ask first and have some qualifications. No one's said they weren't welcome, but posts like yours make it seem like someone did. If no one knows who a curious coder who comes a-calling is, or they got a crappy attitude about the community, current coders, and legal concerns, then they will likely find themselves not dabbling in the project with the current coders.

+1

http://test.aktiswebsolutions.com/safegains/images/thumbs_up_icon.pngI'll also add that it should be reasonably obvious why it's being kept a bit quiet and not open source for now. If it's not, you haven't been paying attention.

I know this isn't an open-source project, and I understand the reasons why not. I simply wonder whether those reasons themselves aren't exaggerated. I'm not insisting on anything with this; my only concern is that the coding team isn't underhanded due to this barrier.
jtr7 on 9/2/2011 at 05:13
Yeah, we read that the first time. The response is the same. We are telling you that the sense of paranoia is exaggerated not by us, and the reasons you should understand for the caution are quite enough.
Anyone still saying "Yeah, but..." won't drop it and so we must assert again and again--this actually to most topics--and the repetition and increase in volume are then called exaggeration, when the root was never exaggerated or loud to begin with. If there's any respect for LGS, copyright, and the coders, that's all that should matter. No skilled coder will be left out unless no one knows who they are, etc. It needs to be controlled and systemic by necessity at this point, even just to keep the code universally applicable, which outsiders and strangers would obviously have to be able to work with, so not to waste everyone elses' time.

Hardly a concern.
