Taffin' a!
I'm pretty hopeful now!
I know we didn't get anything yet, etc, but why not include System Shock 2 in there as well? I mean, it's a request for the darkengine source code, and SS2 has netcode we'd like.
AFAIK SS2 and T2 were developed in parallel and althought the engine is the same, it's not 'interchangeable' -right?
Eidos doesn't own SS2, that's property of Electron Arts I believe...and they're not known for being very modder friendly.
I don't know if you've read through the full thread, but the code given to Eidos constains SS2, Thief 2, and I believe Deep Cover.
Whether we ever get permission to use it is up in the air. After 14 months, one would think they should be able to tell us something.

Yep. SS2 is EA's property.

One Company to rule them all, One Company to find them,
One Company to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

I'm sure Mr. Yoichi Wada knows nothing about our petition. So there are still no results for one and a half years. Maybe we should write him a paper letter?

Mr. Wada's track record with such things is not worth our time.

How about this, Al?: When we get official permission to work with the code and supplement the Thief community efforts, we'll send you a Private Message and link you to the obligatory celebration thread within a day, if not sooner. :D

Thanks, I do appreciate that...
I'm sure it'll happen. Just when is the real question on my mind. For a country that is up near 24/7, Japan sure is the sorta place that'd oughta crane its neck into our woods, sometime or later...
But seeing as the events of earlier this year (The earthquake and tsunami)... Well, I dunno. But it's possibly near...
Like me getting my grammar right. Summer heat is making me all loopy. :wot:

You know, we are all relatively anonymous on the internet guys...
R Soul on 8/8/2011 at 19:26
"Relatively" indeed.
We're all completely anonymous to the sort of person who only uses the internet to do a bit of online shopping. To a company that has the legal right to control how its property is distributed? Hmmm....
And speaking of anonymity, if someone has registered on the forums after the source code was released, that person could be an Eidos spy :joke:

God damn it they got me! Well I guess those crappy Epic Mickey games won't churn themselves out, beam me back to base Scottie!
