Uhh, there is no such key that would magically give us source code in understandable form.
Uhhh... Duh? :laff:
I'm looking for hope, and even if there was such a key, it would most likely be harder to find than the source code. Considering people are willing to look at the decompiled code and foresee the years of work sifting through it, it's apparently not terribly off-putting for those educated for this.
And (ahem) why would you assume this was common knowledge and that I was embarrassingly ignorant of common knowledge?:sly:

It is rumored that such a key does in fact exist and not only does it release the secrets of the source, it will also bring LGS back (with unlimited funding and curse that prevents them from touching consoles). It's inscribed on the inside of the holy grail, so who's up for searching? ;)

You'll have to reach the level of Acolyte and perform the Acolyte Ritual in a ceremony as the culmination of your training. Then you will be bestowed the Door Glyph and two free passes to Disneyland.

This thread is turning ridiculous.
Fact is reverse engineering thief is not a simple job, providing it was permitted and it has not been it would take years to do it unless you have a dedicated group that knows what they are doing with time to spare. Most likely this is not going to happen.
Thief can be made to run in a VM or probably even windows7s xp mode but I have not tested that personally.
Or you can just keep an old Pc to play it on, I have a p3-800 machine with 256mb ram runs windows 98 great and I can play my dos games on there as well. When im not doing that I use it as a router.
So we can hope for the source code but it doesnt look good.
Lets try to keep the nonsense out of this thread.
Is this what you want the eidos people reading ?

Being silly is fine. Eidos likely knows what is goofy and what is not and even engage in it themselves. You're forgetting, perhaps, this thread has already met its purpose and now we only await an official word. They are looking into it--to what extent we cannot know, but our petition has not gone ignored. In fact, this thread is now thumb-twiddling and being bumped to the top. With an indefinite time before Eidos gets back to us I'd welcome humor rather than moaning and killjoys.
Merely bumping this thread is letting them know we are waiting for word. They don't even have to read this thread. We've already had our first victory, and it is that they ARE looking into it. I doubt they care what impatient humans say to pass the time. No reason to be gravely serious. And, heh, I'm sure not gonna let a couple of wise-ass responses go unanswered.

I'm just not sure how much 'push' the person that is supposed to be looking into it actually has....or if they're really 'looking into it' that hard. From some of the tech jobs I've had over the years, I know what 'looking into it' meant when someone at the company I worked for said it...it meant we handed it off to some invisible hands halfway across the country, and if we were lucky we would hear something back within a month. He's a moderator or something on the Eidos forums, and an employee of Eidos Montreal...right? That's pretty far removed from anyone directly related to Eidos, and I have suspicions that the higher levels at Eidos aren't going to bother giving this guy the time of day, or that they are going to give a crap about actually searching for the code. I could be proven wrong, but I doubt it.

well I signed, one step closer to 1000.

Although the silence is kind of disappointing, I agree we should wait till the official word is said. Still, I would not be surprised at all if you were right about the "invisible hands" thing, New Horizon.
I doubt half of the Eidos is searching :). My hope is that at least someone still is, and that this someone has some power to persuade others to look for him/her.
jtr7 on 31/8/2009 at 05:39
I would absolutely expect less than five people would ever be involved at one time, and not most of the time. :erm:
The expectations around here are strange.
