Cobak: Don't worry, I've already thanked that former LGS employee several times for his/her invaluable help :)... Ok, I've updated the first post.

I know what sources can do. But trend of current modders is to add some silly features like bloom, hdr, create idiotic fm on Jupiter and other weird stuff.
Dude who makes ddfix, instead of fixing inventory problem, is making some gfx enhancements.
Today's modder remind me nodding community of Fallout 3, with all theirs enhancements for game:

If nothing else, the source code might help us understand DromED errors better.

That's because it's a replacement for the ddraw.dll... I've recently started using TaffinMouse (which is great, by the way) which adds mouse-wheel support, so other people are adding stuff like that.
Things the source code will help us fix that aren't graphics related:
- We could implement multi-core CPU support
- We could make the cut-scenes work with a more user-friendlly codec.
- We could add better EAX support.
- We could make the readables be read in the same resolution as the game.
- We could add mouse-wheel support.
- We could increase the size of the number of objects the renderer can cope with (problem with shipping and receiving)
and so on. The guys in the Editor's Guild would know more than me though. Most of these issues have been addressed by various patches and add-ons, but it'd be great to have them implemented in the engine.

Yes that's exactly what im talking about, bug fixing first, bloom and other useless cap later. Same with fm, thief 2 gold first and Jupiter later.
Think we understand each other...

Well, of course, I don't think anybody is disagreeing with you. I guess the point is that the things that are being done right now, like the graphic enhancements, were done because they're possible at the moment and were able to be hacked around without the source code. DDfix is a direct draw dll bypass / update, or whatever you want to call it. it's completely unrelated to the inventory bug...and the inventory bug probably isn't fixable without the source code.

What vorob is trying to say here (and I seriously second him in this regard) is that sometimes the community just makes unexplainable moves. Thief 2 Gold example is a perfect one, and it's been discussed over TTLG for many times. Nobody within Thief community is interested in finishing what remains from actual official LGS missions, while there are missions being done about absolutely non-canonical worlds and characters and everything. I mean, anybody can make whatever FMs he or she wants, but the complete ignorance about official, canonical things don't picture the community very well. It seems that nowadays most of FM makers are doing their mods because of better textures, more objects and the most awkward plots, and not because they want to enrich the classical Thief feel and experience.
While everyone here wants the source code to be released to the public (I'll be the first to scream in joy if this happens), nobody knows what will follow. Example with ddfix is relevant here. The System Shock 2 inventory rendering bug with ddfix is a purely rendering issue, and I'm sure it can be fixed after messing with buffering settings. At least it worths looking into. However, jermi is currently bothered with bloom implementation and custom textures. Boy, these are the things that are extentions to the original game, and they are being worked on while we still don't have SS2 working exactly as it should be working (inventory still unfixed). I'm not criticizing jermi, not at all, but there are some strange issues with priorities within this community.

I cant be bothered explaining the differences between John Carmack, a person that shares my ideology and the corporate lawyers and accounts at EDIOS.
Considering that you seem unable to spell in the first place, I'm not surprised.

Rally if you want something fixed why dont YOU fix it ?
Instead you criticize and complain about the things that other people are doing in their own free time and who are then giving freely to the community.
If you were paying him then you could complain about what he does with his time.
People are going to do what interest THEM not what would please you the most.
If it was that easy YOU would be able to do it!

I agree, chastising the community for not finishing the T2 Gold levels is ridiculous. This isn't a company where there's strategic plan and activities flowhcart. It's a hobby to most people, and they spend their time doing things that interest them. Truth be told, it's nice the T2 Gold missions were released, but if you look that them closely, they're paper thin and there's not much there that's all that interesting.
I'm not sure what people like vorob and D'Spair are expecting, but yeah, whatever it is they don't seem too willing to do their part or help out. They seem more interesting in criticizing the community as a whole (which I can't quite figure out, are they including themselves in that or not?) even though they've made no efforts themselves.
