Man, some folks around here are going to have a lot of fun with this stuff. Great to see we didn't have to rely on Eidos to someday cough it all up.

I was hoping Eidos would release it so that we wouldn't have to concern ourselves with legal issues. Still, it's better to have some kind of release than to have none at all.

I'm stunned and excited, might have to dig up my old VC6 disc. Someone who knows what they're doing needs to sort out and organize this mess of files and post an updated archive, sorted into build folders with .dsp files and such.

Well well well,
and what should be the first fixes of the Dark Engine? What do you think?
PS: A separate sticky thread should be created, IMO.

I was thinking the same. We should try to get the project back in place and try to build the exe, if possible.
I'm installing VC6.0 right now....I knew I would need this disc again!

FYI, opening Dromed's debug info will show the original source paths, which should help in reconstructing the folder structure of LGS' network drive.
Somebody needs to start a new thread for this (preferably in TEG), not the news but the efforts towards turning this into a more useful archive. We also need to take steps to insure there don't end up being multiple different versions of the engine floating around with different changes and fixes. Well, that may be unavoidable, but there should be some sort of organized consortium which releases quasi-official "community" engine updates.

It's not all there. At least some header files are missing, so it doesn't compile. Also, all the lgd3d_* functions are missing.

Somebody help a complete layman out - what specific types of things can be done with the source code that have a direct effect for the player? I'm guessing increased on-screen poly counts is one. What else?

Good idea.
Does anyone know if we are allowed to set up a SVN-repository for this, I mean due to copyright reasons etc.?

In theory, you are able to fix everything. The problem is 1.) to get everything running again and 2.) figure out *where* to do *what*

Oh my! And it sounds like it was legally purchased, too!! Whoo hoo!!!!
