Seems to be v1.18, or at least includes the diff from release, which is pretty nice.
I doubt there will be much luck pulling rabbits out of hats with debug dbs, looks like the stuff was only kept on the dev kit for a single compile (or if the drive owner can find an x:, but I'd guess its jus a network mapping). But the rest of the code looks to be pretty solid, a lot of good stuff there and since OPDE has a pretty good framework(I guess v0v) in place to work from, I'd think that there's a good opportunity for people to get involved with rewriting the relevant stuff (it's C, by people who sound like they don't like C much :))
As for dropped features, the facial animation stuff looks quite complete, however it's just manually mapped texture changing, not too interesting. The render has a stub for bumpmaps, with a lovely comment to "do something clever there". No real indication of Siege engine, the Deep Cover stuff is extremely basic closer to shock than t2.
Anyway, a very cool find and some interesting stuff to dig through

Somebody should submit this to Slashdot!

Not just yet, please.:)

Is this real? We have the Dark Engine source?

H-holy $#!%
Just imagine the possibilities that have opened up! Guess it's time for this thread to degenerate into a wish list. I'll start!
General
Multi platform versions (very likely)
Built-in FM management (possible, but low priority seeing as we have other available options)
Support for more than 3 mouse buttons (very likely)
A cure for SHAS (probably)
Renderer
High Dynamic Range Lighting (probably)
Water and texture shaders, reflections (probably, could base it on material properties such as glass, I bet)
bump mapping (likely)
Enhanced Dynamic lighting (kind of unlikely)
Finally working fog (likely)
Gameplay enhancement
Realistic Physics (unlikely, maybe slightly enhanced, but a physics rewrite would be a monumental undertaking I bet)
Rope swinging (kinda unlikely)
Cooperative multiplayer and deathmatch (Likely, seeing as there's already hacked MP functionality)
Optional regenerative health (easy to implement, but unnecessary)
Selectable ghosting options that notify you when failed (useful, and probably not too hard to implement.)
AI
AI hearing based on ambient sound - I.E. no hearing soft footsteps while a deafening generator is running. (somewhat likely)
Facial expressions (likely, since I hear a lot of the code is already there, but the artwork needs to be created)
AI heads move to follow you like in T1 (likely, can't be too hard since it's already been done, right?)
That swim (unlikely)
Climb ladders (unlikely)

In my opnion, one of the weakest links (besides the game limitations), is that although the graphics have gotten much better over time, the AI still look too poly-geometric. Is it possible to update the look of the AI a bit, or was that actually possible before?

Why shouldn't we submit this to Slashdot as a news story just yet? Is Eidos planning some sort of surprise Christmas present for the community? *hopes so*
The more people who see that the code really does exist, the more pressure there will be to get it (officially) released.
jtr7 on 10/12/2010 at 06:24
This isn't official, lost_soul. It's a leak. So let us enjoy it for awhile, since we don't know how Eidos and Electronic Arts will feel about it. :)
Xorax: The hard-coded limit was higher than the official shipped models had. They were lowered to help with end-users' system specs of the time, and Thief Gold even has the slider to lower it or raise it more. Modders have redone the models to get them closer to the actual cap limit. It's possible to raise the hard-coded limit, now.

Facepalm. The source code is the proper tool to make
vanilla Dark Engine games work on modern systems the way they are supposed to work. This should be the top priority for the community. The rest is the highly disputable enhancements.
