agreed, fresh thread would be a superb idea. though source code link would violate rules, BUT WHO FUСKING CARES?

Maybe there is a point in creating a new, clean thread where first message will contain link to the source and latest news on digging this source code? That would be perfect and will save time from reading hundreds of posts...
That's already in The Editor's Guild.

As for the parent company who supposedly has a "zero tolerance" policy towards fan projects, their actions here will reflect on whether or not I buy Thief 4. If they pull an id software and sanction this, I'll buy the game. If they start threatening people, I won't. I doubt I'm the only one who feels this way around here.
I could give you a list a mile long of companies I will never buy from because of their attitude towards fans.

Yup, same here. I'm already on pretty shaky ground as to whether or not I buy T4...so this will definitely be a deciding factor for me too.

Heh, thats news to me but I can't find any info on what engine thats based on. If its not the Dark Engine then sorry its not the "original vision". ;)

Not that incorrect. There's nothing stopping you from having very detailed terrain made out of objects, except that objects are not lit properly and don't have proper polygon-based physics models (both unrelated to complexity). The limit of ~2000 polygons per object isn't such a huge deal in most cases - consider that ideally objects should be built of as few polies as possible, but with efficient use of those polies. The onscreen object limit of ~128 is a much more significant issue, in this case. And it should hopefully be quite easy to remove that particular limit.
This, there are some real limiting limits, and while I do believe any static limits could be lifted, polycounts have never been the most limiting thing. The thief games and systemshock2 could all be improved in so many ways without even overstepping its original hardware-budget that much.
Throwing polygons at something as an attempt to make it look better will not solve anything, they actually have to be used artisticly and meaningfully.
Something I would want to see in dark other than more high res lightmap support is better implemented static meshes that could contain lightmap-data baked into the vertices. So that general brush shapes could build up the simple shape of the level as they do now, but more detailed parts and meshes could be put in without having to stick out, since they'd contain lightmap-information too.

You obviously didn't read the posts in the thread. It was done in the dark engine. TypeRed is a genius when it comes to making the dark engine do crazy things.

My priorities differ. First I'd check to see if Thief 4 is actually worth buying and isn't a steaming pile of crap. At the time of writing this, we have had no evidence to suggest that it isn't, and a handful of miniscule facts that sadly suggest that it is. Still, we must keep an open mind about Thief 4 until we know more.
If it turns out that the game is worth buying,
then I'd consider whether the behaviour of the parent company towards its community and fans justifies a purchase.
