Do any of you know anything else about these organizations? Apparently, MJ-12 was created by the president in 1947 after the Roswell incident, and information (later disproved) was leaked by someone who I can't remember and a Jaime Shandera... recently, someone (again forget the name) has sent a bunch more supposed MJ-12 documents he received from various sources (1999). The Illuminati has been around since Biblical times; a group of people from Pagan-religions vowing to overthrow the Biblical religions in time. The information in Deus Ex sounded pretty accurate for it... I find it cool both of these groups 'exist'.

The Illuminati, as most people know them, were a group started in Bavaria on May 1, 1776 by a former jesuit named Adam Weishaupt. The "Illuminated Seers of Bavaria" had ties with the Masons, as well as other secret societies of the time. The Illumated Seers also had some things in common with older societies, including the Order of the Assassins in ancient Persia, but no real connection has ever been proven. They were supposedly supressed by the Bavarian Government in 1785.
Everything I just said above is true. Actual fact. You can find it in the Encyclopedia. The parts you won't find in standard texts, that some people believe, is that the Illuminati were never put down, but just disappeared further into the shadows to consolidate their power and secretly control the world. I highly doubt that, most of the conspiracy theories you hear about the Illuminati didn't actually exist until the 20th century and in the '60s it was rather fashionable among certain parts of the counter-culture movement to believe in it. Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea wrote a very enjoyable book around this time called <U>The Illuminatus! Trilogy</U> which is a tongue-in-cheek take on the Illuminati conspiracy to rule the world. I recommend it to everyone here, it's very interesting.

But, according to many, Adam Weishaupt's Illuminati was just a small branch of an even larger group, dating back to biblical times. Weishaupt wanted to act faster than the other branches, and didnt take as much care covering up his trails, and therefore was caught. Conspiricies rock.
