The Rebellion of the Builder 2: Mission 2 "A Travel Through Smelter Volcano" - by downwinder

If you used the right (correct) pedestal, it should go down. I don't remember if there's more than one pedestal in the mission, and my notes don't tell me that either. But if everything's okay, you have to go back all the way until you are near the beginning of the mission again. At the place where you could turn right and come out in the open again, you instead continue on and walk the other passage to its end, possibly meeting some enemies. There was a closed gate at the end, with a Hammerite squeezed to death. This gate is now open.
I probably did not play on Deathwish, but hopefully, it's still basically the same.

Finally finished! 1:33 hours (mostly running in circles) 705/1005 gold, found 0/2 secrets . There are some things you got to know before playing this: 1) Certain actions trigger events that open new paths in places you don't expect and you have to run back to the beginning of the map! 2) 1 water arrow is sometimes not enough to take out a fire in order to pick something up... After I figured out that huge lava area opened up, I encountered no more issues until the end... I'm wondering though what these empty crystals aka fire/water/moss arrows are required for? I didn't need them at all. Maybe I should have used them on something to activate a secret? I'm glad it's over. The thing with the stone wall that you don't expect at all to open and the thing with the burning statue that doesn't extinguish by just 1 water arrow and the thing with the unneccesary empty crystal felt ultra trollish to me but was such a satisfaction to finish this on my own. GORT is troll Nr.1 !:ebil:
Excited for mission Nr.3 !!! :cheeky:

The empty crystals can be used to manufacture some fire and water arrows. According to my old notes on this campaign, the ones called "Empty crystal #1" can be put into a lit fire in the room shortly before the end of the mission, where you have to slice away a tapestry in order to open the exit. It is safer to produce arrows one at a time, otherwise you may get less arrows than you put crystals into the fire. Putting type #2 crystals into the fire just makes them vanish - these are for water arrows.
The water arrows can be made in the same fashion in some kind of water basin or sink, but I didn't write down where. I am also rather sure that I only partially worked this out myself, only with Ricebug's walkthru was I able to solve this riddle, and lots of others in this campaign.

I was aware of what to do with the empty crystals from the beginning but the only thing I don't understand is what to do with the moss/water/fire arrows that we receive with this method. They seemed to be totally useless to me. They also didn't get transported into the next mission which was a little bit disappointing. Collecting them felt pointless...

The water arrows were useful for me to get rid of some fire beings. I do not know anything special one can do with the fire arrows, though.

@Gloria - that screenshot is from the '2 marks' spot, aimed like that it hit the button. When I first played it I went through all my arrows (~30) and was really frustrated, but after finding where the '1 mark' on the wall should be in the bow-site, I get it within 2 or 3 tries and often on the first. Downwinder's place is back along the way you came where the path is wider so you can get over near the edge and have a closer shot at it. Either way does the trick and you can advance.
This is an old quote, but I'm replaying this mission now. I managed to hit the 3 buttons at the lava place, but now what? I can't open that grey gate, further up .....
Please can someone help me here?

My old notes for the mission are a bit confusing, even to myself. However, they mention that there are several buttons to press (and the one of them that is located above the lava must be "pressed" with an arrow), and then a gate that was already visible in the mission's briefing movie does open. Unfortunately, I did not write down how many buttons at statues have to be pressed. As far as I remember, though, only the one above the lava has to be shot; every other one apparently can be reached and pressed the usual way instead of doing arrow acrobatics.
I also wrote down that the response for a successful arrow hit onto the button of the statue above the lava differs between versions of the campaign; in v1.00, one could hear a faint (low-volume) click, while in v1.22, Garrett says something like "I think I deserve a pat on the back for that one" (if you use the english version of the game, since the sound comes from one of the original sound files of "Thief 2"). Do you know which version you play, and whether you heard anything when hitting the button? If you did not hear anything, I don't know how you can be sure that you actually hit that button...

Thanks Baeuchlein, Yes I heard a click by shooting the button op high. There were 3 buttons, but the gate doesn't open. Did I miss something else?

Maybe after pressing one of switches you were forced to load save from before doing that and you didn't realize that one of switches is unpressed. This sometimes happens to me.

I already checked them, except the one high above, but I know I heard the click, so that can't be it.
Were there 3 buttons? or did I miss something.
