to get into the cathedral, take a CLOSE LOOK at the rear by the window above your head.
If you mantled the Crypt to the walls, the next move should be obvious.
If not Walk up the slanted beam, turn right and mantle to the terrace. Drop through the roof of the rectory. Find the key and the books etc.
Enter the main Cathedral area, get into the beams with a rope arrow, enter the bell tower, then exit the Cathedral and go to the next objective.

I just loved that Cathedral. Running with a hammer in your hand, chased by a ghost, and when you place the hammer: HALLELUJA!

Well, crap.
I'm pretty far in on Night One - but now it's crashing every time I try to go further.
I've ransacked the Hammerite complex, and am trying to go back through the Crypt area so I can get back to the streets & cure some folks. I picked up some Holy Waters while I was in there.
Anyway, as soon as I take the elevator down, and then drop back through the hole in the floor to the Crypt area with 3 Haunts patrolling, I'm stuck. If I try to go down either of the two nearby hallways, the game crashes.
I tried saving, then rebooting, then restarting the game. No dice. It still crashes every time.
Is there any way to fix this? I don't understand why it didn't crash on the way in, but does now that I'm trying to leave the Crypt.
update:
I reloaded from an earlier point (before getting on the elevator). For some reason, I was able to get back down in the Crypt, snatch all the loot I missed the first time through, and now I have to get out of the place. No more crashes - go figure. Presumably, there's some way out through the Hammerite complex.

You had a glitch on your computer (probably near to entering the Crypt) which corrupted the memory. There are many possible causes - mains spike, dodgy connection, program bug, component on its way out etc. It's usually a one-off, so don't panic!
When you save a game you actually save a chunk of memory. If that portion of the memory has anything wrong in it then the error is saved along with the good stuff and will show up when you reload that save.
The way to recover is to go to a save before the glitch occurred. (This could be quite a long time before you experienced problems because the glitch might affect an area of the map you haven't been to yet.)

At the end of the Hammer Complex in the Priests bedroom with the two locked metal panels, there is that hidden exit that you can open which has a ladder in it. Is there a switch on the other side of that to close it back again? Or is there only the one switch in the Priests bedroom? I could only find the one switch. Hope there is another switch as I am trying to do something.
I hope I didn't need to put the above in spoiler cover as you have to go through that exit to proceed in the mission. However if anyone has cons, let me know and I will change it. :)

I found that switch while looking for more holy water. The only bottle in his room is the one in the other safe-like enclosure, right? I didn't consider that a very "secret" compartment, like he said in his notes, but it was the only one I can find.
This is an absolutely fantastic set of missions. I'm only about half done with the first night, and have just over 3 hours of play time. And it's not boring at all - just lots of stuff to do.

What an amazing, fantastic mission!
And to think that I hadn't played it yet - if I hadn't stumbled upon some thread mentioning this mission, I would have never seen this gem.
Loved the first 2 missions (day 1 and 2) - one of the few missions where the notorious curfew makes sense /is explained ;).
And the ambient sound and the textures were just beautiful. Made the missions seem so much more alive.
Night 3 was a great mission as well - architecture, texture, ambient, but it felt too much like running a gauntlet to me. And that's what generally puts me off in a Thief mission. It was still a wonderful mission, just not what I like.
9/10 points
Just some really minor nitpicks:
-missing lockpick on Night 1:
I know the reason is how you designed the mission layout, but it's just not funny anymore - all the missions where you start with some essential gear missing and the missing not really or adequately explained.
The result would have been the same if you'd given Garrett both lockpicks and just made the specific doors unfrobbabel or something, but it wouldNn't have been so annoying having all these half-picked doors.
-One-way city:
Although it was really well done, it just seemed like there were too few possible alternative routes to get from one point of the city to another above ground. Most of these take the form of passing through some apartment or private house - which is a nice shortcut for the inhabitant or Garrett but shouldn't be a viable city route.
-returning home in mission 3:
When Garrett jumps into the water pool at the end there and then walks the same path as in the prologue, I was thinking "Deja vu! This either is a very big let-down ending or a big twist ending.
Let-down because it is just reusing the prologe bit, which then begs the question where Garrett came from the first night.
Or twist ending because this could have been a deja vu, and the city is (still/ again)run over by the plague.
I think it would have been better if you had used another route to get to Basso in the prologue mission.
PotatoGuy on 13/3/2009 at 14:50
In the prologue, Garrett seems to fall from where you see the trees, I think just outside the city walls. In Night three he falls out of a cave just under normal ground level, so it's not the same.

I don't know how I missed this FM for over a year ! It's absolutely beautiful !
Lady R, you are an archetectural genius ! It is breathtaking. I wonder how much further the Dark Engine can be pushed in terms of graphics ?! Amazing work!
Just one thing - Where is the second lockpick ? I have been through Conor's shop and got all the weapons, but can't seem to find the lockpick.
