I'm having some difficulties finding certain objects on this level, can somebody help?

Because after about two hours of searching, I finally gave up and just blew the freaken door down with fire arrows, and I know that there's gotta be a more professionall way to do it than that! I'll tell ya, [SPOILER]the Library Key is with the 5000 payment hidden behind the middle statue in the courtyard where a carpet is layed out with a string of lights on each side. The key to the room next to the Nursery is somewhere, but I forgot. Oops.[/SPOILER] Hope that helps.

IIRC correctly you won't be getting there for quite a while. :) Are you sure that you're at the nursery? Thinking back, there are only 2 doors in the small area where the nursery is.
The nursery door, and the room where you find the nursery door key. Unless you're certain you're at the nursery door, in which case just keep playing through, maybe give us some more details and we shall hopefully be able to help. :)

How does one get to the chest above the library? I see a switch, but efforts to flip it with arrows (through the attic hole) have failed.

You need to get inside Lord Saturnine's bedroom. After that you'll be able to proceed.
Also, the "search" function is your friend. It's all been asked and answered before.

You're on the right track but you have more ground to cover before you'll get into that attic. Have you [SPOILER] listened to the conversation between Elizabeth and Bradey? Have you gotten into the Musuem? Been into Bradey's room in the servants' quarters? All of these plus more need to be accomplished before you will find the key to Lord Saturnine's bedroom. By the way, when you DO get into the attic, forget about the chest. It doesn't open. Look for a lever on a post. [/SPOILER] :)

hmmm, yeah, I've done all those things and made it to saturnine's room as well as the nursery. But I guess I have to look for a certain switch in saturnine's room or something.

Go into the attic. Search around until you find a way to get into another room. There will be a peephole into the bedroom, and a skylight in the floor.
