what am I looking for? A switch in the attic somewhere?
for the record I have:
*access to saturnine's room
*seen the switch on the beam next to the chest
*access to the nursery
*the rosary
*everything else I can think of
I do not have access to the chest itself yet, that is the missing key I'm guessing, so how do I get into that room?!
Where is this mages grave they speak of?

The chests in the attic near the pirate flag DO NOT OPEN. So just flip the switch, then look through the skylight in the floor.

You have to GO INTO THE ATTIC AND FIND THE OTHER ROOM. That was mentioned before.
So:
Go to the mezzanine balcony overlooking the main front entrance lobby. Turn right, go into the attic through the small door near the bannister. Go into the attic. Work your way to the left rear corner. Enter the passageway. Exit into the room with the chests and the flag and the peekhole into the bedroom.
Turn right, and right above the skylight, on one of the beams over your head is a switch. FROB THE SWITCH.
Go back to the library. And you will notice it has changed.

In the room with the chests is a skylight in the floor. LOOK DOWN AFTER YOU THROW THE SWITCH. You are looking into the library. Go to the library. If you don't have the library key check back in the bedroom with the two bodies.

are you even listening to me? How do I get to the switch in the first place to throw it?! Or, to put it another way, how do I get to the room with the chests? We are speaking about the same room right? (I've been asking about the area you can see through the hole in the attic, pictured above) :erg: Sorry if I'm sounding rude but you're not making much sense.

OK. In the attic there is a passageway, a hallway if you like, that connects to the main attic area. It is back in a darkened corner to your left front as you make your way past the windows and crates.
SEARCH the area well and you will find the way through.
Sorry, I thought you were IN the room. You cannot see the switch that you need to hit unless you are in the room. The angles are such that it is not visible except at the location of the switch.
From this hidden room, you can look into the bedroom, and most people do this and hear a conversation, that leads them back to the bedroom.
It seems you have done it the other way round.
I did not realize you were still in the bedroom.
