All I've heard from Saturnine recently is that 7C2 will not happen. Now he's back Dromeding, though... once Rose Cottage gets released, we can all hope...

Hi everybody, I am trying to finish this nice mission, d/loaded the patch clearing pointed , I unzipped, copied and replaced the mission20.mis file at my thief directory but they still stand still.
Am I doing something wrong?
Stingm on 9/12/2009 at 18:01
I would just download the full version of the updated level. Can you try that?

Sorry stingm, I saw your post just now.
I will try this, thank you!

Hey, I replayed The 7th Crystal. I have to say that I forgot it all (geez, was it 8 or 9 years ago?) and had to refer to this thread on how to get Bradley's key and get to Servant's quarters.
Im trying to understand the storyline, can you help me fill in the blanks:
Do we know how their child was lost? Do we know why Bradey and Elizabeth were killed by (probably) a mysterious M? Why would Alexandria arrange her own kidnapping? Was it for the money? Was Bradey not as faithful to Saturnine as Saturnine thought, since he wanted to grab the loot and escape? Well, I know that a lot was supposed to be revealed in chapter 2...
The way I understood the storyline:
Saturnine and Alexandria grew apart due a tragic loss of their child. Alexandria took a lover (Captain Lorcan), while Saturnine became obsessed with Hammerites and books. Saturnine and Bradey found the Hammerite catacombs and took the Sapphire, which awoke some ancient ghosts. The night of the party, when Saturnine wanted to display a newly found gem, Alexandria was kidnapped. This was arranged by her and Lorcan (why?). Alexandria pretended to be Seraphina and hired Garrett to steal the Sapphire, as she was jealous that it attracted her husband's attention. That night Bradey and Elizabeth planned to grab some goodies from the catacombs and escape, but they were killed by (probably) a mysterious M. (Bradey and Elizabeth a tragically romantic sub-plot) Garrett stole the Sapphire and met Seraphina/Alexandria, where he was KOed by a hidden Lorcan. Garrett faced a court trial where he was found guilty of a possession of thiefery equipment and probably thrown to jail.
Is the above correct? Any amendments to the above?
Also, I can't seem to get Act4 to work. CamVator starts, I hear the bells and there is a text on the screen about Garrett meeting Seraphina again, I can see the chanracters, but nobody is talking. Is there a way to fix this? I have V2.

Hi sorry Jericho, I only just saw this,
It seems like the Act 4 dodgy boundstrigger bug is happening more and more lately, maybe it's newer computers? I really should make an updated version of that mission, using the much more stable room brush trigger method.
The thing is it would be really tempting to give the mission a makeover! but maybe that would lose it's personality? I don't know :erg:
I think that simply by making all the pillars and columns into objects I could probably free up enough brushes to join the crypt back into the main mission as it originally was.
About the story,
It would have been explined in part 2 that their daughter died by drowning in a fountain pool in the estate gardens outside the east gate. And her father blamed himself for not seeing it in time. I had the area built at one point but that was on an old computer so it's gone now.
The crystal itself is well known to both the keepers and the (bad) mages, and wanted by both, the seventh is the last one the mages need but they never knew where it was only that it was in a crypt under a hammerite church. When Saturnine found it and told everyone he was having a party to show it off, the keepers were alerted and hired a thief to get it:
The mysterious 'M' was hired by the keepers to sneak into the mansion that night, and steal the crystal, as the keepers think that Mages may also be looking for the crystal. She's a good guy though and that's her voice that you hear right at the end helping Garrett out of jail.
The thing is that Garrett was never supposed to be there that night, the keepers didn't hire him, as they have other thieves that they use for this kind of thing, but when Lorcan and Alexandria came up with the whole 'Seraphina' plan, that was how Garrett became involved, nothing to do with the keepers, Alexandria went ahead and hired Garrett of her own accord.
So it turned out there were two thieves there that night, M must have recognised Garrett and just helped him out, also an undercover Mage was there and at least a couple of the guests were undercover Keepers :thumb:
Also M didn't kill the servants, just gas arrowed them so that Garrett could get the guys key. M was supposed to talk to Garrett after he got the crystal and explain everything but Lorcan knocked him out and the poilce found him before M could.
Bradey was a good guy and a loyal friend to Saturnine, he just saw an opportunity to change his life by going back down to the crypt to grab any other treasure that might be down there, and it wouldn't really be stealing from him if it's not Saturnines stuff anyway.
Lorcan was a Mage (and an all round bad guy) and knew all about the Mansion being an old hammerite church and the reputed hiding place of one of the ancient Mages seven 'vision' crystals, his job was to go into the mansion undercover employed as a guard until he could find the sapphire and steal it. But Saturnine and Bradey found it first by complete accident. So his plan was to seduce the Lady Alexandria and get close enough to the sapphire to steal it, I think by the end he didn't care about killing anyone to get it, and after knocking out Garrett on the bridge he returned to the mansion and set fire to it.

Thank you, Saturnine! It's more than I could have expected!
The 7th Crystal remained my number 1 FM until the release of the Rose Cottage. :) Yes, I replay this FM on a new dual-core computer, that must be the reason why it doesn't go.
The 7th Crystal Gold sounds tempting and tasty. Of course it is up to you. Touching such a gem, such a classic might be risky. (although I just jump out of joy when I hear the possibility of merging the catacombs with the mansion mission)
Not to mention T7C2. :) A long, long awaited sequel, which remains a mystery. Setting Saturnine's Mansion ablaze (the reference in the Rose Cottage) might either indicate you quit it or it might refer to Lorcan setting it on fire. Anyway, please don't take it the wrong way. I highly respect your work and if you ask me, I always drooled for the sequel. So... hm... I even remember reading some posts asking that someone takes it over and finishes it, although my opinion was always that Saturnine is Saturnine, the one and only.
Anyway, thank you for explaining these few twists of the storyline of the 7th crystal.

I've never seen the actual ending as it has never worked for me even after trying the fixed files uploaded in the hint threads and anything else I could think of. I think an updated version with a makeover would be fantastic and would breathe new life into your old classic! ;)

Funny.
I just started this yesterday and just finished playing this again myself.
I ghosted it for the most part on the expert setting, which is very rare for me to do too often anymore. Although I did not pick all the pockets, and I do not think I got the full amount of loot. Nonetheless, I got through without alerting the guards.
I have an older MB and processor, so as far as I know, I really did not have too many problems with the ending credit, court, and escape sequence, if that is all there was.

This FM certainly is immortal. :)
Hey, I've just found out that the "Mysterious M" character is called
Mara. :D
