I think you may be unaware of how narrow the ribcage is at the top. A lot of the breadth at the top is shoulder, not rib. That said. I have widened and deepened the ribcage to more resemble the original and be less anatomically correct, but still more anatomically correct than the original. Correctness can suffer some more. It should look right, even if it isn't.
Better?

That looks much better. I still can't help but think that the ribs seem a bit too thin. Not because they're too thing as such, but because the low-poly curves that the polycount requires make them look thinner.

Looks cute, but I somehow like the old skull better, at least in the front view. The jaw area looks weird, maybe it's too wide?

Come to think of it, I also miss the burnt-in contrast of the original, which had dark black eyes instead of grey ones.

I darkened the eye & nose holes some, but because these are actual cavities, I didn't make them black. I tried that in-game, and it looked bad. I may lighten them up some more still. This way, depending on the lighting in the room, they will be darker or lighter, as you would expect, according to how light enters the sockets. The original had just painted on eye and nose sockets.

The difference is the jaw bone. The original doesn't have one. I'm using Schwaa's skull, just retextured to match the rest of the bones, and it has the jaw. I may cut the jaw off and see what that looks like. Or I may not. I haven't decided.

Looking at it I think I made that jaw too wide ;)
edit- lol, redface else noticed that too

Alright, alright. You made me pull out anatomical skull diagrams. I compared the skull front view to a couple (one a doctor's office chart and one an illustration in the Encyclopedia Britannica). Both pretty much show the same thing. As you can see, the problem is not the width of the jaw (mandible), but more the skull dome height from the bridge of the nose and the jaw length. Bearing in mind that this is a video game in an alternate universe populated by some rather oddly shaped, from an anatomical point of view, people, Schwaa's original skull is not too bad. Sure, it could be better. But it is miles better than the original. That said, and if Schwaa does not object, I can try and fix it a bit to more closely match the Britannica's front and side views. I won't bother to fuss with the underside, back, or top. They can come along for the ride as I play with the front and sides. Just understand that when I am done, this low poly skull will not be appropriate for an anatomy class. But hopefully it will be a little better than it is now.

One thing I really like about this forum: the folk who comment do so to help you improve. They don't just criticize; they constructively criticize. :thumb:

I was almost thinking we're criticising a bit much in this thread! :D
Another thing which looks wrong to me about the skull is the flatness, especially around the eye sockets. It looks like the entire front of the skull is flat, rather than curved / rounded.

The original does not have the lower jaw, that's why it looks so different. But that's the proper way for a scattered skeleton skull to be, because the lower jaw would fall off and not be there, not being attached to the upper skull by anything substantial.

For the purposes of the EP, isn't the original skull missing the lower jaw?

Well, you're both right. Of course. Technically. But before I go down the road of modeling a whole new skull is that the concensus (of those reading this thread): the skull should not have a mandible? Speak up now, or the mandible goes away!
