Scumble, music has a big effect on me, too.
That (the power of music) reminds me of (

(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDRbnmjzY7U) LSD Girl makes me a little emotional in a kind of speechless awe at how lovely she is here. I don't know what it is about her. I hate what drug abuse does to people too -- though I wouldn't mind a single trip for the religious experience -- but the way she puts things here is pretty beautiful for a worldview, at least in the fleeting moment you hear it.
Edit: Also, who says lowpoly characters can't tug the heartstrings.

I'll admit that I get choked up when I watch videos of kids being reunited with a soldier-parent who has been stationed in a combat zone. As manipulative as they are sometimes, they still get me.
Me too. The media people may use it in a manipulative way but you can't fake the emotion on the kids faces.
Claire DeLune. It must be played by someone who understands it but when it is it conveys every tender selfless feeling love produces. No other classical piece tears me. There are some sappy country songs that nearly do like "If you get there before I do" and "Don't take the Girl" but they are manipulative whereas "Claire DeLune" is completely honest and bares all without a word.

There was this tech demo lately which showed a gynoid being put together but exhibiting unexpected behaviour and the instructor who is never seen orders her to be deconstructed. That had me pretty close to tears. Seems quite laughable now when I think about it, but I'm sure if I watch it again the same thing will happen.
Ah here it is: (

While this didn't
quite crack through the hardened layer of crust encircling my heart and coax forth a tear or two, it is extremely well done and emotionally effective. The pensive look she gets when lining up with the other gynoids at the end had me wanting the next chapter of her story.
The voice of the instructor could have been better, though!

I thought the voice of the "instructor" was pretty unconvincing. Calling a new android "baby" seemed a bit unlikely for someone who's been initialising identical androids all day.
Does sound like the start of quite a good story, but it does feel like it's stealing a lot from AI. Though it could go down a bit of an uncomfortable track with the possibility of her being used as a sex toy. Surely someone out there must have already written a similar sci fi story, though I can't think of one off hand.

Maybe he was so pissed off at everything for having short little stubby arms, anything that got in his way, he'd go to town. He did have anger issues

AI the movie stole too. There was a story in Creepy comics in the mid 70's where AI were being created as sex toys for wealthy clients who had become increasingly jaded. When tired of them there was a destruct button. There were always more to buy. One plastic didling playboy was burning through them looking for something special and found it in a wonderful new model but he eventually found even this one a fading desire despite her creative insights and seeming depth of feeling. He destructed her. Only then did he find her note explaining she was a real human sentience placed in an android body. A sad morality tale. I could dig it out of my wayback trunk but I'm not sure what issue and it would take awhile.

The song 'Mad World', though beautiful, always makes me want to go back to bed, curl up in the fetal and pull the covers over my head. One of the saddest songs I've heard in a long time. I ran across a video created by a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan and was blown away by how good it was. The song is sad enough, but this fan's video managed to capture the desolate feeling you can get when playing the games.

AI is based on a short story from 1969.
