I can't get out of the radioactive pool. I've tried from all sides, tried mantling up (ala Thief and SS2), and I still can't get out of the pool.
So far, compared to Thief and SS2, I am thinking Deus Ex isn't worth the $30 I paid for it. Somebody want to help change my mind?

Is there no ladder out of pool? I fell in and got out or maybe I died and tried again.Persist! It's worth it. Swimming down a bit and then up and jumping repeatedly at surface might can help.

Yes...I hate that pool and always have trouble getting out. Try looking up as you attempt to get out. I hate swimming in this game....and you can get throught pretty much the whole thing without having to do it so...

Whenever you try to climb up a ladder to a higher level or get out from a pool, look up (not slightly but point straight towards ceiling or sky) and you can get there, otherwise you must have trouble.

The "City on the hill" seems, from the information given in the game, to have some conection with Thomas Aquinas. Haven't been able to find it anywhere else yet though.

I think the Bible is the origin of this allusion.

BlueNinja! Oh my god, a fan of the Amber series! I love those books. Harvey Smith, the lead designer of Deus Ex introduced me to them, so far I have read the first two books. I just love em. Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast series is great too.
And about that climbing up out of the goo pit, just look all the way up, it's kind of a tougher climb than in Thief and SS2

Please do not judge the game by the training mission. Please do not judge the game by the first mission.
From what i know -- and listening to others describe their experience -- DX is notoriously frustrating the first mission. Then once you get past the first mission, it's usually very hard to stop playing untill you get to LaGuardia.

This is indeed the title of a book by Thomas Aquinas.
Edit:
:o :o
The author of
De Civitate Dei is of course St Augustine,
not Thomas.
Don't know what came over me there. <IMG SRC="erm.gif" border="0">
